Chennai, The BIG Tamil Entertainment Awards, produced and conceptualized by 92.7 BIG FM, Chennai’s No. 1 Melody station and winner of the Golden Mikes Broadcaster of the Year Award, commemorated the incredible success of the Tamil entertainment fraternity by acknowledging the stalwarts in the presence of the crème de la crème of the Tamil film, music and television industry, in a splendid ceremony at the Chennai Trade Center. The awards show announced its much awaited winners for the finest talents in Kollywood for the year 2012.
The BIG Tamil Entertainment Awards is a unique and exclusive platform that honors artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in Tamil cinema and television.
The glittering, star-shimmering event rolled out as star and celebrities walked down the red carpet to celebrate the best in the Tamil Cinema and television fraternity. The ceremony, hosted by RJ Muthu, Ophelia and Balaji featured stellar performances by stars including Anirudh, Actors Iniya, Vijayalaksmi and Tamil Hip hop musician Aadhi among others.
In the midst of all the entertainment, the envelopes were opened to reveal the best talents and award winners for the year 2012. Winners accepted their prestigious Award with excitement and fervor, as the air was filled with roaring applause and cheers.
A total of 30 awards were presented at this breathtaking awards ceremony under various categories. K. Balachander awarded Life Time Achievement Award; Ravichandran Ashwin picked up the nods for Sportsman of the year and Chithra Priya bagged the award for the best sportswoman of the year; “Kumki” bagged four awards for Best Director, Best Music Director, Best Debut Actor and Best Supporting Actor, Best Song of the year was “3” for which Anirudh bagged the best debut music director awards, Mr. M Anbazhagan collected the award for his film ‘Saattai’ which was selected in the best film on social issues category. Aalaap Raju and Saindhavi bagged the best playback singer awards for male and female playback singers. Vijay Sethupathi and Iniya won the best leading roles for “Pizza”, “Mouna Guru” respectively. Hip Hop Tamizha Aadhi bagged the award for the best popular YouTube video – Tamil.
The evening also witnessed the celebration of the best in the Tamil Television industry and Theatre. The award for the best television actor was presented to Abhishek for his performance in the show ‘Maya’ on Jaya TV. Aishwarya collected the accolade for the best television actress for her stunning performance in ‘Manathil Urudhi Vendum’ on Jaya TV. Known for bringing the stage alive with their brilliant performances Actors Y Gee Mahendra and Shanmugasundaram shared the trophy for the category of Person of the Year – Tamil Theatre.
