The first call under UKIERI Phase 3 has now been announced (http://ukieri.org/call-for-applications-2016.html). The call is under two key strands of the programme: Integration of Skills in Education system and e-Partnership and Research Incubation.

Integration of Skills in Education system

  • MSDE – UKIERI Skills Thematic Institutional Partnerships:  The call is open for all UK and India Further Education colleges, training providers and skill institutions on developing partnerships to support train the trainer programmes, curriculum development, certification & assessments in line with Indian skills needs.
  • MSDE – UKIERI Invitation to Tender(ITT) for Impact Assessment of UK India Collaboration on Sector Skill Councils: This study will assess the impact and outreach of the UK India Collaborations on Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) and is open to any organisations or a consortium of institutions/consultants

The calls are announced under the Implementation Arrangement (IA) agreed to establish a cooperation arrangement between the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India and Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (DBEIS), UK for implementation of activities relating to Skills Development under UKIERI Phase 3.

E-Partnership and Research Incubation

  • Call for Research Proposals 2016: The calls jointly funded by University Grants Commission (UGC) and Department of Science and Technology (DST) will support partnerships between Indian and the UK Higher Education Institutions and research organisations to undertake research in key priority areas.

An Implementation Arrangement (IA) was signed to establish a cooperation arrangement between the Department of Science & Technology (DST) – Government of India and theDepartment for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (DBEIS), UK for implementation of activities relating to Science and Technology, Research and Innovation under UKIERI Phase 3.

An official statement from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (DBEIS): “DBEIS welcomes the continuation of UKIERI’s significant contribution to enhancing the research, skills and education links between the UK and India. BEIS has agreed that UKIERI Phase 3 (April 2016 –March 2021) will focus on fewer, long term activities and this first call for applications will support sustainable partnerships in the area of Skills and Research. BEIS invites the UK and Indian sectors to participate in this bilateral programme.”

UKIERI Phase 3 (2016-2021) was launched in April 2016 and will work on the key priorities as identified by the two governments. The overarching aim for UKIERI Phase 3 is to build on the achievements of the previous two phases through a focussed and targeted approach in order to maximise impact. Fewer, long term activities will be undertaken to enhance the quality of education and research links across the two countries and these will be driven by and for practitioners.

It has been recognized as a key multi stakeholder programme that has strengthened the educational relations between the two countries and been successful in covering all segments of the education sector.
UKIERI is funded from the UK by Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, British Council, Scottish Government and Department for Employment and Learning; and from India by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department for Science and Technology, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, University Grants Commission and All India Council for Technical Education. The programme is delivered through the UKIERI Secretariat led by the British Council in partnership with International Unit, Universities UK and Association of Colleges, UK.
