Buzz – The Marketing Club of SIMSREE, Mumbai recently concluded with its flagship event Filmark. The event is conducted annually during SIMERATIONS: The cultural festival of SIMSREE. SIMERATIONS was held from 19th  to 21st September this year. Filmark is a competition that tests students on their marketing and advertising skills by making promotional campaigns for movies. The students are tested on their knowledge, creativity and uniqueness of ideas. As many as 115 teams comprising of more than 400 members in all participated in the competition. The event consisted of 3 rounds. Round 1 was an online film quiz containing 30 questions and was conducted on 13th September. Each question was a set of images that   formed a link and the teams had to guess the name of the movie. Top 15 teams having the best scores in the quiz were shortlisted for the next round.

Round 2 involved promoting a movie on Facebook. The marketing club entered into a tie up with the production house of the movie SONALI CABLE, scheduled to release on 17th October. Each team was given a Facebook page to handle on which they had to carry out a promotion campaign for Sonali Cable. After analyzing the content, reach, engagement and ideas generated by the teams, finally 7 teams were selected for the final round.

Round 3, the final round, was conducted on 21st September at SIMSREE premises. It consisted of creating and presenting a 360 degree marketing campaign for Sonali Cable followed by a question and answer round. The participants and students were graced by the presence of Mr. Hemant Sanganee and Mr. Himanshu Kapadia as the honorable judges for the event. Mr. Sanganee, an independent entertainment professional and a film correspondent, thrilled the audience with his deep knowledge on how a film should be presented to the public.

On the other hand, Mr. Himanshu, a senior vice president at Aditya Birla Group and an expert in public relations, added a lot of insights on how to market a movie, with his sharp wit and sense of humor.

The sharp eyes of the judges for finding the best resulted in the team ‘TNT’ from SIMSREE as deserved winners of Filmark 2014. Team ‘Meet your makers’ from WeSchool, Bangalore and Team ‘Fireblade’ from SIMSREE were tied at 2nd place.

The winning team received prizes worth Rs. 12,000 and the runners up teams received prizes worth Rs. 4000 each. The winning team, consisting of students from 1st year, also has a chance to have a summer internship at RS Entertainment, the producers of the movie Sonali Cable whereas the team from WeSchool, consisting of students from 2nd year, also has a chance to have a summer internship year, will have a pre-placement interview for a full time job at RS Entertainment.

The icing on the cake for the event was the music launch of Sonali Cable at SIMSREE itself. The actors of the movie, Rhea Chakraborty, Ali Fazal and Raghav Juyal along with the director, Mr. Charudutt Acharya enlightened the crowd with their presence. It was an evening of pride and excitement for the college and the students. On the whole, Filmark  2014 was conducted smoothly which was only possible due to the active participation from management students across India and the co-operative and continuous efforts of the club members involved. The club hopes to turn up with more innovative and competitive ideas come next year.
