83 The Film is an Absolute Marvel and a Gem of a Film. Kapil Dev’s Devils created History by Winning The World Cup 1983 ?and Today we see the same Magic being recreated on the big screen. From Real to Reel Both Winners!!!!
Ranveer Singh brings alive the character of Kapil Dev with full grit and determination and makes it one of his best portrayal by adapting the look, behaviour and mannerisms with Absolute ? sincerity and conviction. Indeed an award winning performance.
Given the situation and the period of 1983 and the Euphoria surrounding cricket per say and most importantly when the Indian team was selected and Kapil Dev made the captain in place of Gavaskar in itself was a huge challenge.
World Cup Victory was a Landmark in more than one way. The Indian cricket team was always considered as Underdogs. But they would turn out such a Dark Horse, nobody ever dreamt about it. Especially West Indies, the then reigning team who had won three back to back World Cup. Those days West Indies, Australia, and England were ruling the Cricket World. India started getting recognition in the world cricket  after this Historic Win. Those days cricketers were not handsomely paid and they were always falling short of money on International Tours. All these aspects are beautifully depicted with some really funny and lively situations. Kapil’s Devils Victory made the game of Cricket more glamorous in India and Stars of Cricketers who performed than onwards.
Kabir Khan deserves all the credit for recreating those huge momentous sequences and making it an all engrossing and consuming fare. Maybe from the footage he must have managed from the archives and the actual shoot and the way he has woven the narrative with the help of the SFX to cover the Highlights of those spectacular matches are a treat to watch. You are virtually transported to that era and zone and subjected to the electrifying and exciting game of cricket experiencing the same thrill and joy of the crowds who were actually out there in the stadium.
Credit goes to the Make Up  Artiste and the Stylist for giving a near truer look to the Eleven Star Cricketers of those days and the Director of Photography for capturing those crowd scenes surging on to the pitch and whole natural environment surrounding those beautiful and pristine Green Turf pitches in Leeds, Manchester and above all at Lords a dream ground of every Cricketer.
All Eleven Players are very aptly projected by the actors playing Krishnamachari Shrikanth, Sunil Gavaskar. Dilip Vengsarkar, Mohinder Amarnath, Yashpal Sharma, Ravi Shastri, Madanlal, Roger Binny, Balvinder Sandhu, Sandeep Patil and Syed Kirmani and the Coach Manager played by Pankaj Tripathi have all given Superlative Performances. Boman Irani playing Farrukh Engineer as Commentator is Bang on.
Deepika Padukone’s cameo as Romi wife of Kapil Dev looks pretty cool and composed and displays timely emotions as and when required in her brief appearance thereby adding that Star Attraction to the overall ensemble cast.
But the winner of the lot is undoubtedly the highly energetic and supremely charged Ranveer Singh who has put in one of his best performance till date. Enacting Kapil Dev was not easy but he has come quite close to delivering the shot.
Love for the game of Cricket Pan India and the resident Indians residing the World Over all closely watching and cheering with a dose of National Integration goes on unhindered in the background adding to the fever of the matches with an undying hope of clinching the World Cup.
The whole film keeps you on hook with some light, some heavy, some loaded moments to keep you on tenterhook.
A Very well made Sports Drama, A Reality Cinema and A WINNER !!!!!

Just Don’t Miss This Gem Of A Good film.
