Vikram Bhatt’s 1920: Evil Returns creates a splash

BVG Films and ASA Production‘s  1920- Evil Returns ,that released the nation over today ,opened to a super start with certain mass pockets receiving 80% occupancy, a figure much higher than the recent offerings from the horror genre.

With over 25 films to his credit, director /producer and screen writer Vikram Bhatt, with a slew of horror blockbusters, right from Raaz, 1920 to Haunted and the recent Raaz 3,has established himself the face of Indian horror.

After the stupendous success of his last directorial venture, the 3D horror Raaz 3,Vikram Bhatt now dons the producer cum writer’s hat for 1920-Evil Returns, which marks the directorial debut of Bhushan Patel and by the encouraging opening ,the “Fear Peddler” looks at keeping to his track record.

Says acclaimed critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh “1920 – EVIL RETURNS garnered a healthier start at the ticket window, with certain mass pockets opening to 50% to 60% occupancy, which is a damn good sign for a film that doesn’t boast of ‘star names’. The multiplexes were slightly lower, but the overall figures were encouraging. The brand ‘Vikram Bhatt’, whose last release RAAZ 3 was a massive hit, added to the hype for 1920 – EVIL RETURNS, besides the eye-catching promos of the film, of course.”

Adds Vajir Singh,Box Office India “Vikram Bhatt has mastered in horror genre. He has got his loyal audience who are going to watch it come what may! Vikram has always known to be different. Despite not directing 1920 Evil Returns, his name is on the poster and that makes a lot of difference.”

Comments exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi ,“Over the years, the Vikram Bhatt – Horror combination has not only gained popularity, but also a loyal fan following across the tier 2 & 3 towns of India. 1920 – Evil Returns seems to have lived upto the expectations that its audience had of it & is well on its way to becoming the best performer at the BO this week. The fabulous music score of the film is a huge added advantage that will help it sustain well till Diwali!”

While the debutante director Bhushan Patel received encouraging feedback -Another highlight of the film was lead Tia Bajpai’s performance ,which left plenty floored. All praise for the actress said Taran Adarsh “It’s up to Tia to pull off the act of a possessed woman with flourish. An extremely talented actor, Tia is the soul of the film, displaying sensitivity [where required] and scaring the daylights of you [when needed].”

Says an excited Vikram Bhatt “It feels good to have made six horror films and all six of them successful! The journey from Raaz to 1920 returns has been great. This is a victory of a young team of director Bhushan Patel, music director Chirantan Bhatt and my co writer Amin Hajee.”
