VAISHALI SHADANGULE, PURVI DOSHI AND SASHIKANT NAIDU CELEBRATED INDIAN TEXTILE DAY BY DISPLAYING A TRIO OF UNFORGETTABLE FASHION COLLECTIONS AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK SUMMER/RESORT 2012

VAISHALI SHADANGULE’S KHAND COLLECTION OPENED DAY THREE OF LAKMÉ   FASHION WEEK SUMMER/RESORT 2012

Vaishali Shadangule revived the beauty of “Khand” the fabulous traditional Maharashtrian handloom, and turned it into truly dream outfits. Khand which means Sugar is in brown and green tones and Vaishali used this 36 inches width fabric with great imagination and creativity and added on maroon and deep blue to complete the story.

Restoring the beauty of this fabric onto the fashion catwalks, Vaishali used the rich textures innovatively for beautiful women’s wear. Also using Chanderi discreetly, Vaishali blended the two for a collection of long drapes, tunics, shirts, stole, jumpsuits, jackets, saris and kurtas.

The silhouettes were unconventional with lots of asymmetry amongst the garments and layering which gave that rustic feel. The knee length bundis in Chanderi with Khand border, the pleated one piece creation, the tiny Khand jacket, the kurta style blouse with overlap and the one side kurta style, revealed Vaishali’s control over her fabrics and construction techniques.

For women who love tradition and heritage textiles, Vaishali Shadangule’s collection “Khand” will create a stylish impact not only on the national but global fashion scene.

PURVI DOSHI’S FASHION MOVEMENT ON THE RAMP WAS A DAZZLING OFFERING

There was a lot of excitement and action on the ramp when Purvi Doshi presented her collection quaintly called “Chalval” which means movement at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012.

It was a nostalgic offering to honour the pride of India’s fabric – Khadi, which has been the fashion statement from the country for centuries. Based on elementary geometric shapes inspired by the circle, triangle and square to form unique silhouettes, Purvi showed that it is simplicity that can create the most striking impact on the audience.

Layers in shades of ecru, beige and natural khadi was turned into swirling cropped blouses, asymmetric flouncy tunics, pleated dresses, one shoulder togas with contrast tones,  panelled empire line creations, multi tiered and layered midis and two very interesting saris with splashes of embroidery. It was an artistic tribute through fashion to Khadi, which Purvi presented in a very skilful manner; revealing that our fabric of freedom can match any textile in the fashion world.

For lovers of true hand spun khadi fabric, which is a labour of love and has a lot of soul, the “Chalval” collection by Purvi Doshi will be treasured for many seasons.

SASHIKANT NAIDU GAVE FASHION AN INNOVATIVE DUALITY AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK SUMMER/RESORT 2012

When illusion and memorial come together they inspired Sashikant Naidu to create his collection titled “Duality” at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012.

Bringing the beauty of his home state, Andhra Pradesh into fashion focus, Sashikant presented a creative mix of Ikat, Kalamkari, and Khadi and added gorgeous Lambada jewellery to complete the look. There was tussore and ahimsa silk in traditional colours of yellow, orange, blue, green and red all created with natural dyes. The prints were rustic and eye-catching, created to reveal a folksy story with flora, fauna and pictures of village life.

Dresses and skirts swirled down the catwalk, while sari inspired wrap around creations were slinky as they sizzled on the models and will be perfect wear for the rising mercury. Detailing was restricted to miniature ruffles and Zarb embroidery which was touched with hints of Lambada jewellery.

The one shoulder asymmetric dress which was hand painted with eco friendly colours, the bias cut tunic, the panelled skirts, the lehengas teamed with ruffled tops and the many saris with striking paintings; paid a tribute to the crafts of the states which Sashikant selected.

When it comes to choosing a creation which reflects the beauty of Indian crafts, then the “Duality” collection by Sashikant Naidu will be the right choice for timeless fashion splendour.
