Kanchan Awasthi

It is a dream of every artiste to make it big in Bollywood. Several talented girls and boys across length and breadth of this great country land up each month to try it out in Mumbai’s Bollywood which commands such magic that despite having no contacts or connections in Bollywood, these talented ones still will want to venture in this magical filmy town on their own.
Bollywood draws a large section of artistes from Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, UP and around who seek to try their luck, and it also happens that lady-luck too smiles on those ‘lucky few’.
Some years ago, a young girl from Lucknow in UP, while in her school nurtured her dream of becoming a top actress in Bollywood. Being an avid fan of late Madhubala and Smita Patil, and the reigning queens Shabana Azmi, Madhuri Dixit, Rani Mukherjee and Tabu she too, began dreaming of becoming an acclaimed actress like them one day! Kanchan Awasthi is her name. This this Lucknowi girl is now poised to fulfil her dream very soon.
On finishing her studies, Kanchan had done theatre in Lucknow and Delhi. Her next big achievement was having done an important role in Shabana Azmi’s TV Serial ‘Amma’. She acted with her idol in her first television appearance. What else more would she ask for?
Her performance fetched so much appreciation that she has been signed opposite Arshad Warshi starring Prakash Jha’s ‘Fraud Saiya’ and here too, her performance attracted several accolades across various quarters of Bollywood.
One can call it a stroke of luck, that while taking a flight to Delhi, she happened to meet Bollywood’s producer-director Shantanu Tambe who was taking the same flight and even happened to be seated beside her. Shantanu revealed to her that he was on his way to scout for location for his upcoming flick, “Bhoot Wali Love Story” had words of appreciation for Kanchan’s role in the TV serial ‘Amma’ while also stating that he was on the lookout for a talented female to play lead in his film.
Back to Mumbai when Shantanu narrated the story to Kanchan, she instantly gave her approval as she had been offered the lead role. ‘Bhoot Wali Love Story’ released just recently and opened to impressed all India collections which motivated the director to offer Kanchan a lead role opposite debutante Mayur Kumar in next film ‘Gunwali Dulhaniya’ which had its Mahurat on a grand scale in Lucknow. Shantanu plans to shoot this film across locations in Lucknow, Sitapur, Bareily and Nainital and it is slated to release on 8th February 2019.
