Suzanne Bernert   being awarded the “Maharashtrian Kalabushan Award” for contribution to Marathi Culture…

Suzanne is the First Foreign Artist to ever receive the honor and being know as a Maharashtra chi Mulgi !

Suzanne is not only excited but  feels  that it is an achievement in itself.Generally we have seen artistes of foreign origin immediately adapting themselves to Hindi Song and Dance drama. But an artiste feeling at home with a regional language and imbibing the culture speaks volumes of the calibre of the artiste. In a dialogue with Hemant Sanganee she expresses herself on her journey and experience with Marathi cinema. Just see the first picture of Suzanne Bernert & her gradual transformation from a Balle Dancer to a Lavani performer.
Elaborating further she says.  “only in Marathi, besides all my other work I have done 5 Marathi movies of which 2 will release this year 2014.
I came into the Maharashtrian side of Movies due to a friend, renowned Theater Personality and Film & TV actor Nagesh Bhosle..He called me for a sweet Character “Rebecca” coming from abroad to study the Culture and Danceform “Lavani” in a now Super Hit “Gallit Gondhal,Dillit Mujra”…as I am a trained Ballet Dancer and I love dancing per se it was a challenge and a joy…the most difficult part at that time in 2009 to wear Ghunghuru..now when I dance Lavani it has become second nature and a joy to wear them…
So when I was approached in 2011 to participate as a Celebrity Contestant in ETV Marathi’s “Dholkichya Talavar” (Reality Dance Show) I was excited and nervous…Two Lavani’s in 7 days in a language that is different from Hindi…To my surprise I went ahead in the show and the time frame to learn the Lavanis became tighter and the competition fiercer…I made it up to Semi-Finales…
It was tough, a big challenge, an intense experience…but It was a great feeling & Immense Fun & Joy !
After that more Marathi movies came my way…”Dusriya Jagatli-from another world” about girl child which went on to win Maharashtrian Best Social Movie Award in 2012 and was screened at the first Indian Berlin Film Festival in 2012 that I attended.
This year was big on Regional Films..My Bengali movie “Ramdhanu” (Rainbow) became a Super Hit.
Back to Marathi cinema , and now still filming “Than Than Gopal”, under production …the character of “Ana” was created after suggestion of Milind Gawali to the Filmmakers that it would be a plus point for the movie to include me as the Heroine..
