Star India Sets Stage for Television’s Biggest Independence-Day Spectacle

Living Legends of Film & Television World Dedicate This I-Day to Uttarakhand

Star India’s Fund-Raiser Lifebuoy presents Saath Hain Hum Uttarakhand to Feature Riveting Performances from Silver Screen Stars

This Independence Day, Star India’s popular channels will host Hindi film industry’s iconic stars and television’s most celebrated actors as they give an enthralling performance as  part of efforts to raise resources to aid rehabilitation in flood-hit Uttarakhand.

Indian cinema’s living legends Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and A.R. Rahman will be joined by Vidya Balan, Kajol and others in riveting performances at Star’s initiative ‘Lifebuoy presents Saath Hain Hum Uttarakhand’, in what promises to be the biggest Independence Day spectacle in India.

The celebrities will join forces to put together a marathon, seven-hour extravaganza, in a one-of-its kind initiative by the entertainment industry to mobilize funds for the flood-ravaged Uttarakhand.

“We have always believed in leveraging the power of television as a force for good. And, in the aftermath of the devastation, we saw an opportunity to leverage our network to raise awareness as well as resources for Uttrakhand,” Mr Uday Shankar, CEO Star India, said. “The initiative has enlisted support from the icons of Indian cinema and the superstars of the television world who will use their collective efforts to reach out to the masses for support, yet again through television.”

The event will be broadcast live on Star India’s key channels including Star Plus, Star Utsav, Star Pravah, Life OK and Channel V and the advertising revenue will be channelled to relief work in the hill-state through two civil society organizations — Himmotthan Society and People’s Science Institute.

Each hour of the show will hosted by a different celebrity such as Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Singh and Anas Rashid (lead pair of Diya aur Baati Hum) while the brave hearts of the Indian Air Force, who went beyond the call of duty to help the victims and lost their lives, will also be felicitated.

Lifebuoy presents Saath Hain Hum Uttarakhand, a joint initiative of Star India, Film & Television Producers Guild, FWICE and Wizcraft, will give viewers generous doses of entertainment while appealing to them to help with the rehabilitation efforts in the hill-state.

Revered names of silver-screen will create exclusive acts for the mesmerising evening that is bound to leave viewers craving for more.

The highlight of this magical evening will be a rare collaboration between Indian cinema’s biggest star Amitabh Bachahan, writer & poet Prasoon Joshi and talented composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. They will perform a special event anthem – Mera Desh – to instil hope and muster mass support for the cause. Amitabh will lend his mesmerizing voice to recite couplets from Prasoon’s magical poetry that will be set to Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music. The moving musical act will weave Prasoon’s event anthem – ‘Mera Desh’ – into an enchanting song performance by acclaimed classical singer Shankar Mahadevan and a spellbinding poetic rendition by Amitabh.

Oscar-winning maestro AR Rahman will set some of his most inspirational songs to a unique acapella style, a form of rhythm singing without instruments. Versatile actor, singer Ayushmann Khurana will perform a song composed exclusively for the event.

Actors from popular shows on Star India’s channels will also join the cause. Karen Tacker aka Viren, Mohammad Nazim popularly known as Ahem and Kapil Nirmal aka Nihaal will pay an emotional tribute to the Indian defence forces through their inspirational song and dance act. Sneha Wagh (Ratanjeet Kaur of Veera), Devoleena Bhattacharjee (Gopi of Saath Nibhana), Kanika Maheshwari (Meenakshi of Diya Aur Baati Hum), Ishita Dutta and Rahul Sharma (Poonam and Akash of Ek Ghar Banaunga) will be in never-seen-before avatars.

Star India will encourage its viewers across the globe to lend their support and donate generously for the cause through several dedicated channels. These donation lines will be open from August 15 to September 7 and the entire funds collected through this period will be channelled to the two NGO partners. The use of funds will be overseen by a team of independent auditors.

Star India’s initiative is an extension of its philosophy to use television as a tool to create awareness for the larger good of the society. This belief is reflected in the network’s refreshing and inspiring content that instils a sense of hope in its viewers and persuades them to be the change they want to see around them.
