SPEEDO SIGNS AUSTRALIAN SWIMMING STARS AS NEW AMBASSADORS

Alicia Coutts and Christian Sprenger agree two-year
contracts with leading swimwear brand

Speedo has added a further two Australian Olympic medallists to its roster of brand ambassadors, after securing two year agreements with both Alicia Coutts and Christian Sprenger. Both athletes will compete in Speedo swimwear until 2014.

This sponsorship announcement closely follows Alicia and Christian’s impressive results at the London Olympics Games. As part of Speedo’s long-standing partnership with the Australian Olympic Committee, both athletes wore Speedo swimwear throughout the London Games as they swam their way to medal triumphs.

A series of impressive performances in London saw Coutts return to Australia with five medals, including Gold in the Women’s 4×100m Freestyle Relay, together with three Silver medals in the 200m Individual Medley, 4x200m Freestyle Relay and 4x100m Medley Relay, completing her haul with a Bronze in the 100m Butterfly.

The achievement ensured the 24-year-old’s impressive haul has made her one of only three Australians – and the first Australian female – to win five medals at a single Games, reinforcing her status as one of swimming’s most exciting talents.

Upon agreeing to become a Speedo ambassador, Alicia Coutts said:

“It’s great to become part of the Speedo family. I have always competed in Speedo and look forward to working with them over the next two years and beyond”.

Sprenger (left), also enjoyed a memorable Games in London, securing a highly creditable silver medal in a 100m Breaststroke race which saw a world record broken,  before  taking home Bronze as part of the 4 x 100m Men’s Medley Relay Team.

Regarded as one of the fastest breaststrokers in the world, Christian set a world record in the 200m Breastroke semi-final at the 2009 World Championships, and the 27-year-old has his sights firmly set on qualifying for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

On his new partnership with the world’s leading swimwear brand, Christian Sprenger said: “I’m very excited and grateful for the opportunity to become a member of the speedo team. I look forward to the design and innovation that I’ll be wearing when I compete against the world.”

Sean Hastings, Vice President of Product and Marketing at Speedo International, said: “We’re delighted to unveil Alicia Coutts and Christian Sprenger as our latest Speedo ambassadors. Both Alicia and Christian are regarded among the brightest talents in the sport of swimming, and their achievements in London have reinforced their positions as great role models and ideal Speedo ambassadors. We look forward to working with Alicia and Christian, and helping them to achieve their future goals.”
