Let me clarify as to why I mentioned “Shubh Mangal Zyada Savadhan” An Wholesome Entertainer ! Just because while watching the film the way the director Hitesh Kewalia who has also beautifully written the script and dialogues is so hilarious that a subject like Homosexuality which is decriminalised since late but yet as of today is spoken in whispers makes light of it with master execution.
Ayushmann as Kartik is in top form leaving no stone unturned while portraying true blue gay character with great pleasure and enjoying as well displaying his versatility. Thankfully you don’t get to see those typical homosexual characteristics which make them look nothing but clownish. But yes certain effeminate features which separate them from the flock are very much defined in both the love birds.
Jitendra Kumar as his love interest Amol puts in his best foot forward trying to match and maintain the momentum.
What can you say about Gajraj Rao , Neena Gupta and Manu Rishi ! ! All accomplished artists in their own right lend an invaluable contribution in making this mad cap crazy caper an all consuming affair with the help of an equally meaningful and involved ensemble cast who seem to be not only enjoying but relishing every bit of it. You just can’t deny them their due because they had a wonderfully well written Script and Dialogues to stand by.
More than the same sex relationship and the love story between the two boys what is most interesting is the reaction of the parents and the drama that ensues when they find out that their son is gay is really very hilarious and maddeningly funny. Matters of sexuality and preferences are discussed threadbare nevertheless tongue in cheek , but since the characters are based in Varanasi , the film sends across a strong message that subjects as such are not relegated to cities and Metros but has all the possibilities of being perceived by a large section of society across board.
Bhushan Kumar and Aanand L Rai come together to bring across a delicate subject earlier spoken about through different cinematic narratives for those in knowledge of it but this time on it will touch a chord with masses at large in rural and interiors. Indeed a commendable effort especially when it is delivered in a very nice and easy mode in a family way?
Just Go and Have fun while the guys go through their drill and grill to make their point and live life the way they intend.
