“Shubh Mangal Savdhan is an all round entertaining film full of fun and frolic. A Full On Family Entertainer !
With an amazing and very much sensitive subject highlighting the problem of Erectile Dysfunction not an easy turf to tread on Aanand L Rai has delivered with the support of his writer Hitesh Kewalya who has defined every character of the film in a beautiful way, and the dialogues of the film are bang on and keeping you glued till the next salvo is thrown at you. But the real cake goes to the director who has handled the whole film so competently without being overbearing at any given time. He has let every character go its natural way to such an extent that it appears that the whole drama is happening in front of your eyes.
The film is based on Tamil film “Kalyana Samayal Saadham” which had Prasanna and Lekha Washington. But the treatment is altogether different , with Ayushmann Khurranna as Mudit Sharma and Bhumi Pednekar as Sugandha putting in their might and giving one the most stellar performances of their career. As the loving and most charming film couple with wonderful chemistry they turn out to be the scene stealer most of the time. Ayushmann never seizes to surprise you with his easy going attitude towards every role he essays with such élan and rides with the character with equal ease. Bhumi is indeed a revelation and looks pretty with every film. She delivered in Dum Lagake Haisa and more recently with Toilet Ek Prem Katha , here she is bang on with yet another superlative performance. Not to forget the contribution from the supporting cast without which the charming lead pair would never have flourished.
Now the best part of the film is why a girl after knowing that her guy is not the “He Man” and her marriage can get jeopardize, but still willingly goes ahead and wants to marry him because as in one the most beautifully and sensitively shot sequence where a decision needed to be taken despite the huge handicap blowing in front of her. She explains “When nobody would give her a second look he was crazy after her and that’s how she falls for him and the love story ensues. Given the premise of the film it could have become crass and crude but that is not the case to be and the narrative flows with some real good dialogues from the supporting cast all in tandem with the problem on hand.
But as in most cases here too the film starts meandering after lovely first half and half of the second half and after that somehow the end becomes a bit more untoward and unlikely with the hero doing some acrobatics and hanging between life and death , to prove his love which is not the case at all because the real problem of impotency is the main villain that needed to be addressed. And it was being done till it lost its momentum in the end.
Besides this the whole film is a hunky dory and a roller coaster ride with the makers being able to drive across a very legitimate point and pertinent problem and issue plaguing our youth in today’s time.
So does Ayushmann Khurranna aka Mudit Sharma able to rise to the occasion in “Shubh Mangal Savdhaan” ? Just Go & Check It For yourself !!!
