Sonal & Simrit perform for the 1st time in Mumbai after a decade
Mumbai: The Two sitarists, Sonal & Simrit who have had several international performances at Boston, Toronto and around the US have performed in Mumbai after a decade. Their strings tuned to the atmosphere of Awadh, had taken the audience through the lanes of the city famous for its melodious Thumris and Kathak Dance. The evening of live “Gayaki Ang” music of Sham e Awadh.
“The String Theory” will allure all present with sitar jugal bandhi, the magic of ghungroo and enchanting vocals. Both the sitar sisters were overwhelmed by the presence of all dignitaries from the world of music and feel support from seniors is what gives a boost to young talents today. Says Sonal, “As we starting performing on stage at an early age, today was revisting all those memories in India way back – but it was amazing to see all the support we received.” Her perfect complement on the sitar, Simrit says, “At all our international performances, the kind of response we received everywhere was elating but back home we wanted to connect with the younger minds so as to create more followers for the sitar and hence we launched “The String Theory”.

Popular Singer Abhijeet launched “The String Theory” & several other dignitaries like Ashok Khoslaji, Ghanshyam Vaswaniji, Sudeep Banerjee, Deepak Panditji were present at the event. Their guru Ustad Siraaj Khan feels proud to be present & showered his blessing to both Sonal & Simrit. Said an elated Abhijeet, “Its wonderful to see young talent like these play so beautifully and having taken an initiative to carry our culture and tradition forward my means of the sitar. Music is the best language that connects souls, then be it in any form.”
The String Theory has created an album which will have 8 compositions in totality which will comprise of the National Anthem, folk songs on sitar, classical pieces, an old hindi song and specially create new hindi songs on sitar – keeping the youth in mind, they have specially devised fusion music.
Both the twin sisters have been performing since the age of 8 and have so far performed in Boston and Toronto Music Festival and several music shows and festivals in India. Their rigorous training has been on for years now under Ustad Siraaj Khan of the illustrious Mewati Gharana who swears by their talent.

Very popularly known as India’s twin sitar sensation – Sonal and Simrit entered into the divine world of music through their devotion and melodious Dhund and Raags on Sitar at a very young age. Their initiation into the world of music began at a very tender age under the guidance of their Guru Ustad Siraj Khan of the illustrious Mewati Gharana. Both these sisters come from non-musical background and started learning sitar at the age of eight.
Twin sisters have completed their education from University of London at the prestigious Russell Square International College in Mumbai. Sonal has specialized in Accounts and Finance whereas Simrit has done specialization in Economics and Management.
