Mumbai Women’s International Film Festival (MWIFF) announces its Official selection for 2014.

The second edition of Mumbai Women’s International Film Festival (MWIFF) announced its impressive line-up of films on its official website. The festival has shortlisted 152 films from 457 entries received from 126 cities across 62 countries. The festival organized by Oculus Creations will be held from 6th to 13th December 2014.
The festival will raise its curtain at Liberty Cinema on 6th December followed by 6 days of screening at Carnival cinema of Borivali and Oshiwara, Liberty Cinema, South Mumbai and at 2 theaters of Ravindranatya Mandir, Prabhadevi from 7th to 12th December.
Some of the films of Competition category to be screened at the festival are ‘Kapus Kondyachi Goshta’ by two times National Award winning director Mrunalini Bhosale, starring Makrand Anaspure ;
3 times National Award Winning Director Ravi Jadhav’s films, ‘Time Pass’ starring Prathamesh Parab, ketaki Mategaonkar
and ‘Mitraa’ starring Sandeep Khare, Veena Jamkar; ‘Raakhandaar’ directed by Dr. Mrunalinni Patil starring Ajinkya Dev;
‘Vitti Dandu’ presented by Ajay Devgn which is a Dilip Prabhavalkar starrer
and ‘Shutter’ by national award winning director V.K Prakash, starring Sonalee Kulkarni and Sachin Khedekar.
Besides the above mentioned films the festival will also showcase Naseeruddin Shah Starrer film ‘Int. Café-night’ and ‘Newborn’ by Megha Ramaswami.
Some of the international films include ‘The Grand seduction’ by Don Mckellar strarring Taylor Kitsch, Brendon Gleeson and
‘Heartbeat’ by Cannadian women director Andren Dorfman.
There are also many more critically acclaimed films to be featured at the festival besides premiere of some impressive films.
The festival will give special focus on German cinema this year as 41 films will be screened from German.
Announcing the films, the head of film department Mr. Ravi Hathalia said, “It seems like each year we receive more films, and more impressive films, that highlights the work of women and shows that the percentage of women is surely increasing in the industry. We are proud to give an opportunity to these talented ladies and highlight their work.”
Further adding, Mr. Hathalia said, “The festival has finalized four screening venues to depict the art work of endowed filmmakers” and in addition Chintan Kuvadia, Programming director of MWIFF said, “I’m trying to get more screening venues for the second edition of MWIFF so that maximum film lovers can taste the films. We are also organizing ‘Filmmakers meet filmmakers’ session wherein the successful filmmakers will share their ideas with the audience. Our committee is trying to get successful filmmakers like Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, Farah Khan and many more regional and international acclaimed filmmakers for the session.”
The festival’s jury panel consist of some well-known names of the film industry like acclaimed Director Nupur Asthana, Writer & Director Devika Bhagat ,Writer Manisha Korde, Director and Producer Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, Writer Shibani Bhatija, Cinematographer Nirmal Jani, Writer Deepa Bhatia,Hollywood Writer, Director and Producer Olivier Delahaye and Producer Mitchell Peck.
Furthermore, Industry Conference Programme will be held wherein important topics of “Breaking in” into the movie business will be discussed from the perspective of Industry professionals and Studios. Some of the topics to be discussed at the conference are, ‘Sales and distribution of films, ‘Online distribution’, ‘Guerilla style of film making and marketing’, ‘From story to screen’, ‘Growth of Digital Cinema’, etc.
