Procam International announces readiness for 10th Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon

The promoters of the Standard Chartered Mumbai marathon, Procam International expressed their readiness to host the 10th edition of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon on Sunday, January 20, which will have a total of  38,620 participants in the various categories on race day.

Hugh Jones, Race Director, Dr. Aashish Contractor, Medical Director and T K Srivastava, Technical Delegate, AIFF along with Vivek Singh, Joint MD, Procam International discussed the route, medical facilities, provisions and other innovations for the event.

Hugh Jones, Race Director,  stated, “we are  extremely happy with the way the Marathon had grown since its inception. We have reached the 10th edition and it’s been an overall successful operation. There have been a minor changes in the route. The Full Marathon has been pulled back by 40 mts but that has been covered up in two different locations. Firstly, the start of the Half Marathon has been extended by 20 mts. and secondly, the U-turn at INS Trata Circle, covering another 20 mts.”

Dr Ashish Contractor, Medical Director, representing the Asian Heart Institute hopes to be a part of the Marathon for many more years, just as they have since its inception. He elaborated, “This time we have introduced a new data system for all runners with regards to their medical history. We have so far received over 1100 responses, which is pretty impressive. There will be 12 Medical Stations, 8 Ambulances, 7 doctors on bikes covering 3 kms each and more than 350 doctors on call.”

For the benefit of the runners, 1 lakh, 35 thousand litres of water will be distributed through 24 water stations, while there would be eight Energy Drink stations, 11 Cool Sponge stations and 11 Orange station (providing slivers of oranges and salt).

According to Shrivastava, Technical Officer, “150 officials from the Bombay City District Amateur Athletic Association (BCDAAA) will be posted at the Start and Finish of the full and half marathon and along the road to take care of the technical conduct of the event.”

The full marathon for Amateur runners will be flagged off from outside Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) at 5:40am, followed by the Full Marathon for the Elite foreign and Indian athletes at 7:20 am. Both these races will finish at CST.

The Half Marathon will be flagged off from opposite Bandra Fire Station at 5:40am go on to the Sea Link, and trace the same route back as the Marathon to finish opposite CST.

The event will be telecasted live on STAR PLUS AND DD SPORTS on January 20th from 7.00 am to 11.00am.
