Prime Minister Narendra Modi to launch several projects during his visit to Maharashtra on Saturday ;  Also to commission Indian Navy’s new warship INS Kolkata

The Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi  during his day long visit to Maharashtra on Saturday (August 16)  will launch a warship, lay foundation for a multi-crore SEZ and port connectivity project in Navi Mumbai, dedicate a Powergrid’s transmission line and launch multiple road and highway projects in Solapur.
INS Kolkata
Upon his arrival in Mumbai on Saturday morning, Mr Narendra Modi will commission India’s largest indigenously built warship INS Kolkata at the Naval Dockyard.  Defence Minister Mr. Arun Jaitley and the Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral R K Dhowan will also be present.
The 6,800 tonne Kolkata class warship is constructed by the Mazagon Docks Ltd, Mumbai and has been designed by the Navy’s Design Bureau.  The keel of the warship was laid down in September 2003 and the ship was launched in 2006.
JNPT, Nhava Sheva projects
Later in the forenoon, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for Rs 6,000 crore Port based multi-product Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at the JNPT at Nhava Sheva in Navi Mumbai.  Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Mr. Nitin Gadkari will also be present.
The proposed industrial infrastructure to be spread over 277 hectares is planned as a self-sustainable integrated development project having potential to generate 1.5 lakh direct and indirect jobs.  The SEZ will be developed through a Special Purpose Vehicle under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) mode and is expected to be ready in three years.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the Rs 1,926 crore Port Connectivity Highway Project at JNPT.  The project taken up under the National Highway Development and Port Connectivity Programme envisages construction of 6/8 lane highway with necessary flyovers, railway over bridges and inter-changes to ensure uninterrupted flow of traffic bound to and from the JNPT port.
Mr. Narendra Modi will also allot land to JNPT Project Affected People under the 12.5% scheme.  The allotment of land for the project affected people was a long pending issue, and the same has now been resolved after the Ministry of Shipping approved the transfer of 12.5% of 1172 hactares land to rehabilitate PAPs. JNPT which is India’s largest container port, was commissioned in 1989.
National Highway projects at Solapur
In Solapur, the Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation the Four lane section of  National Highway 9 between Pune and Solapur and lay the foundation stone for four laning of Solapur-Maharashtra/Karnataka border section of NH 9.   The Pune –Hyderabad- Vijayawada – Machilipatnam National Highway 9 is one of the major East-West corridors connecting Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Powergrid transmission line
While in Solapur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also dedicate to the nation the Raichur – Solapur 765 kV transmission line of Power Grid.  The commissioning of this project will ensure synchronous operation of the Southern Region with rest of the country.
This is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second visit to Maharashtra.  Earlier, he had paid a visit to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, BARC in Mumbai in the month of July.
