Phamous Is The Third Bollywood Film To Be Shot In The Notorious Chambal Valley

The notoriously famous ravines of Chambal aka Beehad, known for their association with the dreaded dacoits have a lot of character. However, despite its reference in many films and stories this land of dacoits has hardly been explored by the Bollywood lens.

The Valley of Chambal which covers the areas of three Indian states – Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh has hardly been picked as the location for shooting Bollywood films. Until now only two iconic films have been shot in Chambal – Bandit Queen and Pan Singh Tomar.

And now the infamous ravines will soon make a reappearance on the big screen in Karan Lalit Butani’s directorial debut – Phamous! Karan who has been trained under the exceptionally talented director Tigmanshu Dhulia is excited to have captured the unexplored territory in his debut film.

“Chambal Valley is our very own version of the Wild Wild West and the region is still untouched and retains its earthy scenic glory. Apart from the fact that the story of Phamous is set in Chambal, the ravines also have a lot of character and provide a good canvas to shoot captivating montages. So, it was necessary that I shoot my film there and I am happy that we were able to do so. Till now only two films have been shot in this region and we are the third one to shoot in this historical Chambal Valley,” says director Karan Lalit Butani.

Starring Jimmy Sheirgill, Kay Kay, Pankaj Tripathi, Jackie Shroff, Shriya Saran and Mahie Gill, Phamous invites you on an odyssey that hits your heart and face at the same time.
