Wine lovers in Goa gathered to witness an evening filled with good taste as Pause winesthe niche and premium Indian wine maker, extended its wine portfolio with new and classic additions. Wine experts, influencers and wine enthusiasts enjoyed the newly launched varietals along with the winemaker’s exquisite range of existing wines at Panjim’s The Crown Goa HotelPause Wines is a company nurturing, cultivating and offering premium wines.

Chairperson and Managing Director of Pause Wines, Mr. Rajesh Patil opened the tasteful evening by touching upon Pause wines’ journey so far and the company’s future plans making it a perfect occasion to raise a toast. Goa’s love for wine that dates back to the 16th century was rekindled as wine lovers sampled Pause’s latest additions, Pause Chenin Blanc, Pause Sauvignon Blanc, Pause Ruby Red and Pause Cabernet Sauvignon. Soon, the customary see, swirl, smell and sip led to a unanimous ‘cheers’ that echoed in every corner of the elite evening.

Pause’s wine tasting evening also featured an absorbing talk by India’s leading wine expert Ajit Balgi on some interesting wine and food pairings for the Indian palate. He addressed that while it is common to associate wine primarily with European cuisines, there are ways to meticulously pair wine with Indian dishes and enjoy a delectable combination with Indian spices and flavors as well.

Through the evening, the attendees swirled and sipped through the enviable portfolio of Pause Wines. This included the latest reds, Cabernet Sauvignon and Ruby Red and whites Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc. There was more for the discerning ones including Indian Nectar, Chardonnay, Merlot, Indian Classic, Indian Pearl, Puro White, Puro Red, Premium Port No.1 Red and not to forget Pause’s award winning Shiraz from the much loved wine portfolio already present in the Goan market.

Determined to further the wine culture in India, Mr. Patil announced how the company aims to expand to other markets including Delhi, Rajasthan, UP, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh by next year. He delighted the wine lovers with the news that a sparkling wine varietal is on the anvil. He also shared that the Pause vineyards that is spread over 100 acres of rich farmland near Dindori, Nashik and has a 60,000 litres production capacity would soon be open for wine tours. The winery houses a state-of-the-art processing setup imported from Italy and exemplary in-house Vignerons and Sommeliers on hand.

Talking about the growing wine culture in India, Mr. Rajesh Patil, Managing Director, Pause Wines, said, “Though wine is gradually gaining popularity in India, it is yet to become an integral part of people’s regular lives here. Indian wine consumption stands at a mere 0.2 mm per person whereas France boasts of 3-5 litres wine consumption per person. Information on the wines launched:

  • Sauvignon Blanc: The primary fruit flavors of Sauvignon Blanc are lime, green apple, passion fruit and white peach. Depending on how ripe the grapes are when the wine is made, the flavor will range from zesty lime to flowery peach. The wine suits bests with spicy coastal food as well as lightly flavored Asian cuisine. The wine is available in 2 sizes 375ml and 750 ml priced at Rs 325 and Rs 625 respectively.
  • Chenin Blanc: The slightly yellow colored wine has melon and honeydew aroma and is semi-dry on palate. The wine pairs well with salads, sandwiches, and light meals. It is enjoyed best at 8 °C- 10 °C. The wine is priced at Rs 305 and Rs 590 for 375ml and 750ml bottles respectively.
  • Ruby Rose: The rose wine is made from zinfandel grape and has citrusy and fruity aroma. It has a flavor of orange, vanilla, strawberry and cherry. Crisp fruit salads and spicy delicacies are the best options to have the wine with.  The wines are available in 2 sizes: 375 ml and 750 ml and costs Rs 305 and Rs 750 respectively.
  • Cabernet Sauvignon: The wine is made from a grape variety called Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine has strong aroma of fruity nose of blackcurrant and berries and a rich currant flavour. The wine tastes best when paired with Tandoori and lamb dishes and mildly spiced curries. The wine is available in 2 sizes: 375ml and 750 ml priced at Rs 305 and Rs590 respectively.
