New book on running explores the evolution of a marathoner from a non-runner

Most people think your life changes forever when you cross the finish line. But runners will tell you that your life changes forever the second you decide to go to the starting line. This is, in a nutshell, what first time author Parul Sheth’s book ‘‘The Running Soul – My journey from darkness to light’ is all about. Parul, a 42 year old full time mother of two teenagers, a full time architect who designs restaurants turned to running after a life changing event some time ago and completed the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon in 2014. Published by Embassy Books, the book was launched by Parul Sheth with much fanfare today at Crossword in Mumbai and will soon be available across all outlets across the country.

Over the last 10 years, Parul raised two teenagers as a single parent, worked as an architect designing restaurants, and developed herself as an individual with several hobbies and a whole new life. Five months after a life changing event, when the first Standard chartered Mumbai marathon was held in January 2004 she started running to mitigate the emotional pain. ‘The Running Soul – My journey from darkness to light’ is a story of how she rebuilt her shattered life and put it all back together with new pieces. Since then, Parul has run 3 full marathons, 14 half marathons and several other races and plans to participate in many more. Through ‘The Running Soul’ she chronicles her incredible journey from being a non-runner to a marathoner, all while juggling kids and a grueling job.

Elaborating upon her book, Parul Sheth says, “With this story I hope to inspire the non-runner to start running, the half marathoner to dream bigger and realize that even the impossible is possible, and the marathoner to push his own perceived limits and aim for the much desired Personal Best. Every jogger can’t dream of being an Olympic champion, but he can dream of finishing a marathon. All dreams come true if we have the power to pursue them.”

‘The Running Soul – My journey from darkness to light’ priced at INR 150 is Parul’s account of dealing with life altering circumstances and how they push you on a journey to find your true self and what you’re made of. It’s a story of perseverance and endurance – both physical and emotional – in order to achieve a goal, previously perceived as something unattainable. The book is available for purchase across all Crossword outlets in India and will soon be available across all book stores.
