The Laadli Media Awards for Gender Sensitivity, India’s popular gender sensitive dais, organized by NGO, Population First will organize its 4th National award ceremony on Wednesday, 5th February 2013 at NCPA, Mumbai.

The awards will see the presence of Bhanu Athaiya receiving the Laadli Lifetime Achievement Award and renowned ad-film director, Gauri Shinde with the Best Mainline Film for her directorial debut ‘English Vinglish’.

The award will have Ms. Shubha Mudgal rendering a few songs on women empowerment. Short performances by children trained by India’s famous choreographer, Shiamak Davar, the Saxophone Sisters, and children from a village in Shahapur will also be interspersed in the programme.

Amongst many others Sylvester da Cunha will receive a Special Award for Amul moppet, the Amul Girl, Ranjit Lal for Best Book-Fiction for ‘Faces in the Water’ a fast-paced book that focuses on female infanticide in India.

Also, a known writer for surfacing her views on gender issues, Gita Aravamudan will bag the award for Best Book – Non-Fiction ‘Disappearing Daughters: The Tragedy of Female Foeticide’. National award winner KV Suveeran will be awarded for Best Feature Film for ‘Byari’ that focuses on women in the Byari Muslim community. Recognized playwright Purva Naresh will receive the award for Best Drama ‘Ok Tata Bye Bye’ which delves into the uncharted territory of sex workers, truck drivers and chaotic highways.
