MIFF – 2014 – FILM ENTRIES OPEN: NEW COMPETITION CATEGORIES, AWARDS ANNOUNCED

The 13th edition of  MIFF (Mumbai International Film festival for Documentary, Short & Animation
Films) organized by Films Division, Government of India, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting will be held at the National centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai from February 3 to 9, 2014.

The entries for the MIFF-2014 are open now and film makers can enter films on-line and also offline by logging on to www.miff.in. The cut –off dates for the National competition are September 10 and 30 (with late fee) and for International competition, September 30 and October 20 (with late fee)  respectively.The oldest and largest international film festival for the non-feature and animation films in Asia,

MIFF-2014 brings a lot of valuable content for film makers. The role of Producers of short films is
being recognized  by introducing Golden Conch and cash awards to them in all major categories of competition. Cash awards have been introduced  in technical categories; for best cinematographer, best editor, best sound recordist and best animator. Awards for the most innovative film (named after Pramod Pati)  and most popular film of the festival have also been instituted for the first time, taking the total number of awards to 34 from 22 in the earlier editions.

The MIFF-2014 will also have a number of special attractions, such as the internationally acclaimed pitching forum ‘Good Pitch Squared’ partnered by BRITDOCS  and Sundance Institute Documentary Program and a ‘Dutch Children’s film festival-cum-students film workshop’ by  Cinekids, Amsterdam and Lennep Media that will be a run up event to the festival. The festival directorate has also decided to hold parallel screening of National  competition films in metros and important cities, from February 3 to 9, 2014, for the benefit of film lovers who are unable to travel to Mumbai for the MIFF. The festival will feature the usual attractions including retrospectives, homages, special packages, seminar, workshops and master classes   to make MIFF-2014  a rich and wholesome experience for film makers and cineastes.
