Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF) is always a talking point in world film fraternity because of it’s genuine and fair process of film selection, very high involvement of international filmmakers and variety of programmes . JIFF is one of the top film festivals not only in Asia but in the whole world. The highlights of the 7th edition of the JIFF have been announced by the organizers in a press conference at hotel Royal Orchid, Jaipur.
Founder and Visionary of JIFF Hanu Roj said, JIFF is a kind of festival which has been designed only for the film makers, film lovers and students. The motive behind this year festival’s planning is to introduce world cinema under one roof for every single person who wishes to feel the cinema.
Members of the organizing committee said, from this year JIFF will honor two people with life time achievement award, one of national level and another from international level. This year’s national level life time achievement award will be given to the legendary actor who is also famous as a Tragedy King Mr. Dilip Kumar. Dilip Kumar started his career to work in Bombay talkies movie “Jwar Bhata “. With his tremendous acting he rules on the heart of fans almost for 6 decades and more than 60 films. Jaipur International film festival feels proud in honoring this great actor.
JIFF film Market Director Nand Kishore Jalani said that the international level life time achievement award will be given to a film maker from West Asian film fraternity, but this information is yet to be confirmed. The official announcement is likely to be done on 30th January.
“A Few Cubic Meters of love” 90 minutes Persian language feature film of Jamshid Mahmoudi from Afghanistan will be the opening film of this year’s festival. A romance blooms between a young Iranian working in a Teheran factory and the daughter of an Afghan worker.
Rolf De Heer directed Charlie’s Country from Australia has been selected as the Closing film of the festival. it’s a drama feature film of 108 minutes in English language. Blackfella Charlie is out of sorts. The intervention is making life more difficult on his remote community, what with the proper policing of whitefella laws now. So Charlie takes off, to live the old way, but in so doing sets off a chain of events in his life that has him return to his community chastened, and somewhat the wiser.
From this year festival has separate category of Documentary Feature films. World’s top 7 documentary feature films have been nominated this year for screening. List includes Heritage from Switzerland, The Mount Of Faith and Bhagya from India, Brave Miss World from USA, Jalanan from Indonesia, African Pride from Ireland and On Any Sunday-The Next Chapter from USA.
This year there have been more than 1807 entries (from 100+ Countries) out of which 159 films have been selected in the competition for JIFF 2015. Almost 91 movies from all over the world and 68 from India have nominated. All these films will be screening between 1 – 5 February at Golcha Cinema and Chamber Bhawan from 1st February to 5th February, 2015.
The list includes as much as 12 films form Rajasthan including Jeevati Re Beti.
Disclosing the number of movie selected in each category he further added that 33 in feature film category, 7 in Documentary feature category, 86 in short fiction film, 17 in short documentary film and 16 in Animation film category.
Last year in JIFF 2014 by this time almost 1587 films had already been submitted, out of which 156 films have been included in the final list of nominated films.
Selection committee member V P Dhar Said, the selected films includes the films based mainly on the issues of Human Rights, Women centric issues, International issues, Love, Relationships, War and Peace, Literature, Environment, Youth, Lagging behind of third world, our past and the present, art and democracy and the present political scenario.
In the 7th edition of JIFF has films from Iran, USA, England, Russia, Spain, Nepal, Bhutan, Croatia, South Africa, Bahrain, Puerto Rico, Switzerland and many more countries with these international involvement various Indian state also increase the charm of festival with their films from West Bengal, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and many more. Representation of the international cinema in JIFF continuously increases year by year.
Tendency of the film maker from all over the world towards for Film Market, Co-Production Market and Script Writing competition is also on the high note.
Screening of the 159 films, 13 Workshops and Seminars, 4 Special Meets, 4 Master Classes will be organized by the JIFF during the festival. In all these events, participants can interact with huge number of world filmmakers. A special seminar will be organized on the improvement and the condition of cinema from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Bengal to Rajasthan. Besides, there would be different topics for the discussion like future of Film Festivals, Government Participations and policies, Film Tourism and Women, Social and today Cinema.
In all 34 awards would be given to the films selected by Jury members, in the festival. It is noteworthy that out of these, as many as 7 awards have been started from this year only for Documentary films Category. Similarly, 6 awards for International screenplay and 8 awards for supporting activities have also been started from this year.
