UNIVERSAL MUSIC IN ASSOCIATION WITH UTV BINDASS UNVEILS RABBI SHERGILL’S BRAND NEW STUDIO ALBUM “III”
RABBI PERFORMED SONGS FROM THE NEW ALBUM `LIVE’ WITH HIS BAND AT THE HARD ROCK CAFÉ, MUMBAI, TODAY
Universal Music unleashed India’s true urban balladeer Rabbi Shergill’s latest album ‘III’ today at the Hard Rock Café in Mumbai. Rabbi performed tracks from his new album as well as his previous hits `live’ for his fans at a packed house at the Hard Rock Café.
Rabbi is back after a period of 4 years with his brand new studio album ‘III’ signifying his 3rd offering. Inspired by the genre of rock as well as Sufi and Punjabi folk, his songs are deeply philosophical and blends archaic, almost lost Punjabi phrases into today’s contemporary Indian music with great ease.
On his new offering album, Rabbi says, “Over the years, I’ve fallen in love with the concept of an album. It gives a much more complete idea of an artist, his environment, his times than a one-off song. I like tracing a trajectory, plotting it with songs; the songs must have variety, but still fit in as a whole. I like looking at their keys, their tone, their tempos, their texture. It’s like writing a novel. ‘III’ comes out of this love of craft. It gives a very complete idea of who I was post-2008.”
The lead single from the album is the infectious “Ganga” – once again showcasing Rabbi’s lyrical intensity and his compositional skills. For the video, Universal Music tied up with UTV Bindass to initiate a first-of-it’s-kind campaign to hunt for the face of “Ganga”. The just concluded campaign met with a tremendous response from aspiring models all across the country. The winner is now being finalized between Universal Music, UTV Bindass and Rabbi.
Devraj Sanyal, Managing Director, Universal Music, India & SAARC says, “As a musician Rabbi has proved himself to be an artist who is a notch above most simply because his lyrics and music are for the thinking individual. They convey a much deeper meaning and relate to things he stands for but at the same time his fans understand and more importantly embrace. Ganga, his lead single is my humble opinion is the new “Bulla” and is going to change many people’s belief that non-film music has its own space and stands proudly alongside all other forms of music. Today we proudly release “III” his 3rd studio album which everyone has been eagerly waiting for, after almost 4 years”
Keith Alphonso, Business Head, UTV Bindass, says, “UTV Bindass aims to lead the way in promoting ‘folk rock’ as a genre which has popular artists like Rabbi who are a part of this category. In doing so we have associated with Universal Music, wherein we will give our audiences an opportunity to be a star in Rabbi’s music video of the first single, the infectious “Ganga”, from his much awaited new album ‘III’. We have received a phenomenal response from a lot of youngsters on the `Hunt for Face of Ganga’ campaign and we will soon reveal the winner. The campaign will be on-air on Bindass exclusively”.
