‘International Desi’ at World Boutique, Hong Kong 2013

An initiative by the B.D. Somani Institute of Art and Fashion Technology saw Indian designers participate at the 11th HKTDC World Boutique under the ‘International Desi’ brand.

Designers from India included Shraddha Vora, an upcoming designer who has bagged many awards for her designs that can be best described as “fusion fashion”.

Shougér Merchant Doshi’s ‘Zanaãya Couture’s designs are “trenditional”, a chic and trendy way of draping Indian outfits while keeping traditional elements alive.

C Singh is all about contemporary Indian fashion in a melange of colours and fabrics for those who prefer the Indian style of dressing but crave individuality and uniqueness in their outfits.

Bhavik Dattani’s collection is named “Espelho” and is one of the most reputed and exclusive leading bag brand today.

The Indian designers received stupendous response when they showcased their collections at the fashion parade of World Boutique. Buyers from South America, China, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Spain and other countries were keen to do business with them.

Indian designers such as C Singh and Shraddha Vora who also exhibited last year were of the opinion that the international exposure at the fair provides an excellent learning curve to understand the buyers sourcing requirements. She said , “ The exposure to the latest trends in the fashion industry gives one a clear picture as to the way forward for us. This is one exhibition that I would definitely exhibit on a regular basis and would also recommend it to my colleagues.”

First time participants, designers Shouger Merchant and Bhavik Dattani were clear in their views that World Boutique had helped them immensely in their understanding of international trends while providing the best platform to interact at the global level.

World Boutique Hong Kong is Asia’s leading fashion event for designers to showcase their collections to an international audience of exhibitors, buyers and other industry professionals. It has carved out a reputation as Asia’s premier catwalk show, attracting major stars and emerging players in the fashion industry.

In addition to providing a high profile stage for established brands and designers to launch new products and build their image across Asia, it looks to attract new exhibitors looking for collaborations in the region and international markets. The fair also provides opportunities for learning and networking. A series of seminars by leading international experts discussed trends for the year while looking ahead to 2014.

More than 1,800 exhibitors from 30 countries and regions are taking part in the 44th HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter and the 11th HKTDC World Boutique, Hong Kong. The twin fashion fairs welcome 115 buying missions from 43 countries and regions, representing more than 5,400 buyers from over 3,900 companies.

The 11th edition of World Boutique, Hong Kong, is showcasing a record-high 559 brands, including Ashworth, b+ab, bread n butter, IKA BUTONI, Che Che New York, Episode, Jessica, KATIE JUDITH, Language, MARCCAIN, Mini Cream, Moiselle, Pashma, tout ā coup and Ztampz.
