HRH The Duchess of Cornwall made a historic visit to Liverpool’s Beatles Story attraction today (Wednesday 4th April 2012) commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of The Beatles.
Her Royal Highness was given a tour of the award-winning exhibition by The Beatles Story’s managing director Jerry Goldman before unveiling a plaque to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the creation of ‘The Fab Four’.
Her Royal Highness was greeted at the entrance by staff member Jim Softley dressed in a colourful Sgt. Pepper costume. He sang Beatles songs before moving into the building to meet others members of The Beatles Story team. In The Cavern area of The Beatles Story the Duchess listened to a short performance by The Mersey Beatles, one of the country’s leading Beatles tribute bands before moving on to The Beatles Story’s Discovery Zone where she met pupils from Liverpool’s Saint Vincent De Paul primary school.
Having spent time talking with the children she concluded her historic visit by unveiling a beautiful 50th anniversary plaque specially commissioned for the occasion. The plaque is now proudly on permanent display for all visitors to the attraction.
The Duchess of Cornwall expressed a specific interest in visiting The Beatles Story as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations taking place across Liverpool throughout 2012.
