Homi Adajania to direct Bhushan Kumar and Dinesh Vijan’s Hindi Medium 2
Director Homi Adajania, who made his directorial debut with an English film Being Cyrus in 2005 has been finalised to direct the sequel to Hindi Medium, the winner of the Best Film Award at the 63rdFilmfare Award ceremony earlier this year.
Produced by T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar and Maddock Films’ Dinesh Vijan, Hindi Medium 2 promises to be wackier than Hindi Medium.
Producer Bhushan Kumar confirms, “Having Homi on board as the director for Hindi Medium 2 is a blessing. I loved his black humour in his debut film Being Cyrus. He brings a distinct quirky quality to all the films he has directed so far. That certain mad quality he instills in his films is something I am sure Hindi Medium 2 will benefit from.”
Hindi Medium, after its stupendous run at the box office is now recognised as a successful brand. The film not only won the Best Film trophy at the 63rd Filmfare Award, it also fetched Irrfan the Best Actor Award.
Producer Dinesh Vijan adds, “Homi doesn’t make films very often as he refuses to do stuff that doesn’t bowl him over. But when we narrated this one to him, he loved it. And when we saw his reaction, it was a no-brainer! Homi was the most unlikely choice for Hindi Medium 2 and that’s exactly why we have signed him on.”
The rest of the cast of the film is yet to be finalized but buzz is that Amrita Singh and Saif Ali Khan’s daughter Sara Ali Khan is being considered to play Irrfan Khan’s daughter in the story which moves forward by 10 years in the sequel. It is also not clear if Pakistani actress Saba Qamar who played Irrfan’s wife in Hindi Medium will re-appear in the sequel.
