Government believes in environment and development –Union Environment Minister, Javadekar
The Union Minister of Environment and Information & Broadcasting , Shri Prakash Javadekar has said the government believes in environment and development, and not environment vs development. Addressing a press conference at Mumbai today, the Minister said Mumbai’s Coastal Road proposal and proposals to construct bridges on Mithi river will be taken up on a priority by his ministry. Mr. Javadekar also said online submission of applications for environmental clearance will be introduced to promote transparency and quicken the approval.
The Minister said that private news on FM channels is on issue close to his heart and the issue will be examined before the third phase of FM auction. Speaking on digitization he said the government may relax the deadlines if necessary and the Government will also lay thrust on indigenous manufacture of Set Top Boxes.
Mr. Prakash Javadekar was on his maiden visit to Mumbai on Saturday after taking over as a minister of State in the centre . The Minister also met senior officials of All India Radio, DFP, Doordarshan, Press Information Bureau, DAVP, Films Division, NFDC during his visit.
Earlier Mr. Prakash Javadekar participated in the Leadership Summit of the Goafeast 2014- a conclave of advertising professionals organized by the Advertising Agencies Association of India and the Advertising Club at Goa. In its 9th year now, the Goafest Advertising Festival has brought together over 3000 professionals from the fields of advertising Public Relations, publishing, Radio, TV and digital media .
The Minister will be visiting Pune on Sunday. It is after 19 years that Pune has got a Union Minister in the person of Mr. Javadekar. Incidentally he is also the second Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting from the city after the late V.N Gadgil.
