Film Review – Chhapaak is not just a film, it’s Victory for #AcidAttackSurvivors
Deepika ‘s brave effort to essay the role of Malti, the character inspired by Laxmi Agarwal an acid attack survivor is indeed heart wrenching. Malti will be one of the most challenging roles played by Deepika Padukone and the actress has truly essayed it with full intent, honesty, promise and determination which is evident in every frame
Chhapaak “In a moment ! In a splash ! A life changes forever… #Chhapaak Title track beautifully sung by Arijit Singh composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy and the lyrics penned by Gulzar lifts the spirit , embodies the youth, the people who aren’t getting the might to stand up against the grievances and the ills happening in the society. Chhapaak tells us the brave tales of the survivors who are leading their lives unfettered. Meghna has executed the most sensitive subject based on the true story of an acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal’s first person account. with utmost care .
Four acid attack survivors who have acted in the film along with Deepika and are working in the NGO for the same run by Vikrant Massey who has delivered a very subdued yet highly impactive performance as one of the founders of the NGO. His concern about the issue is quite obvious as he goes about standing for the cause and fighting against the social evil happening. You could see the survivors Prajapati, Jeetu Sharma, Kunti Soni and Ritu Saini enjoying their journey on celluloid. You could see their spirit for life and freedom. Fighters all the way without any hangups they felt even more liberated and in a more positive and happy frame of mind.
This is evident from the dialogue between the mother and Malti the main protagonist where mother being mother shows her concern and worry when she tells Malti to be careful as she is working late in the night, to which Malti responds most dejectedly “After All This that has happened to me what more to be worried about now that can happen.
Chhapaak is not just a film, it’s a Victory for the Acid Attack Survivors. It is a demonstration of hope, high spirit and the urge to change the society. Director Meghna Gulzar has touched upon the sensitive issues elegantly, that one will surely think about standing against. Its indeed a very commendable effort to expose the heinous crimes happening day in day out all around us and across the world. Ban and not the regulation of the life threatening products like Acids of all kinds is the need of the hour is highly emphasised through the whole narrative and its imperatives that it gets implemented.
Frankly speaking Chhapaak is indeed a Must Watch Reality Cinema to get Aware and Create Awareness against such gruesome social evils plaguing our Society. Hats off to Fox Star Studios and their partners in the making of Chhapaak an Eyeopener !!!
