…………Inspired by the intriguing life of a dragonfly, Sayantan showcased his collection at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive which consisted of Self-developed Jamdani weave (extra weft insertion technique) on silk with dragonfly Motifs in structured and layered silhouettes.

……….Believing that his garments are his actual celebrities, Sayantan only decided to have a starry front row comprising on Actor Sana Saeed, VJ Gaelyn amongst others.

Mumbai: Designer Sayantan Sarkar Designs depict the wondrous transformation alongside fabrics like linen, organza and georgette. Sayantan’s Collection is dedicated to today’s working women and men who despite having a heavy schedule round the clock, find time out to live a little, feel the freedom one has, most often which is not valued/cherished. The collection displays the journey an individual takes to evolve into his or her strongest and purest being free from all fears and inhibitions, reawakening to the magic and mystery of life.

The designer has used colors like grey, black and pearl white while hints of sherbet lemon act as refreshing accents. He has showcased textured jackets teamed with slim-fit trousers, structured jumpsuits and voluminous skirts that perfectly communicate the message conveyed in the beautiful designs.

Talking about his collection, Sayantan exclaimed, “I truly salute the spirit of today’s woman, who inspite of fighting all odds is still holding her high and therefore the “Dragon Fly Effect’. I strongly believe in my garments who my stars and hence only invited few friends like Sana Saeed, VJ Gaelyn for the front row.

From the film fraternity famous VJ Gaelyn Mendonca, Actress Sana Saeed, and Paras Tomar made their presence at the show and added glamour to the eventful occasion.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

NIFT graduate Sayantan Sarkar has been making his presence felt steadily and surely on the Indian fashion scene since 2005. The designer combines contemporary silhouettes with traditional Indian embellishments. Geometrical patterns, intricate textures, multiple layers and quirky motifs come together to create the distinctive SAYANTAN SARKAR label. Life being an all-round inspiration, his favourite muse remains the everyday man and the everyday woman.

The label caters to prêt as well as couture lines for men and women. His women’s wear range comprises sarees, lehengas, salwar-suits, floor-skimming gowns, tunics and cocktail dresses. Sherwanis, jackets and bandhgalas constitute the men’s wear line.

His collections have featured at the Kolkata Fashion Week 2008 and 2009, the Telegraph Marriage n Vogue since 2009, India-International Jewellery Week since 2010, Blenders Pride Bangalore Fashion Week Summer Showers 2013 and Lakme Fashion Week Spring Summer Resort Wear 2013.

Leading actor, Paoli Dam walked the red carpet in a Sayantan Sarkar red and white dhakai saree at the 64th Cannes Film Festival 2011 for Vimukhti Jayasundara’s film – Chhatrak screened in the Directors’ Fortnight Section. Her entire wardrobe, designed by Sayantan, earned her major style points from the international press as well.

Designing for the evergreen diva Zeenat Aman and Pardes girl Mahima Chaudhury at the IIJW 2011 added to his success quotient. Singer Usha Uthup, Indian supermodel Noyonika Chatterjee, National award winner Ananya Chatterjee and Miss India World-turned-actor Sayali Bhagat number among the celebrities who have graced his designs.  

From films to premiers to reality shows to national and international film festivals, actors Raima Sen, Parambrata Chatterjee, Swastika Mukherjee, Paoli Dam and Koel Mullick, among others have chosen to wear Sayantan Sarkar creations.
Apart from retailing from his own studio in Kolkata, Sayantan’s creations are also available at multi-designer stores in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad.
