Design One 2012 – A Design Destination

“Retail activism” is taken to new heights at Sahachari Foundation’s Design One (DO) exhibition, which activates social change through the shopping experience.  The motivation behind the initiative is to raise funds for deserving NGOs and recognize the extraordinary creativity of talented designers. The Design One model combines entrepreneurship with philanthropy, fashion & lifestyle with creative passion.

A full-on festive expo, the “Design One” shopping extravaganza offers a holistic and personalized shopping experience all under one roof, and features a combination of carefully selected established and budding designers.F unds raised will help charitable organisations such as Apne Aap Womens Collective, Muktangan, Victoria Memorial School For The Blind and BSPCA

Shoppers are invited to choose from designer ensembles, along with an eclectic mix of jewellery, bags and shoes in a glittering festive display that one can’t buy in any store, anywhere in the country.

This year, seven out-of town top-ranking designers will take centre-stage, including Shivan & Narresh, Aneeth Arora, Ranji Kelkar, Atsu Sekhose,  Pankaj & Nidhi. Some of the wellknonw names taking part this year are Surily Goel, Masaba Gupta, Myoho, Laila Motwane. Also Kidswear by Mansi & Sunaina. Also Trupsel by Trupti Herman,Paromita Banerjee, Meghna Himmatranka and Elements of Desire by Amrita.

Adding an endearing touch to the high-design merchandise is a kiddie’s corner too, as a special add on this year.

Also a part of the extravaganza this year are products such as home accessories,shoes,clutches and handbags, travel accessories and silver gift items from Kunti Shah ,Sachi Maskara .Hiral Bhogi, Padmaja Krishnan,Falguni Mehta,Yama Maskara.Choose from an array of items such as Soaps,Ceramic,Packaging,Pet care,Jadav,Fashion jewellery, indo western clothes and kids wear.

NGOs are given complimentary space to retail their in-house products while two in-house cafeterias provide a refreshing break from the shopping spree. These include OM Creations,Shraddha Charitable Trust,Victoria Memorial school,Rm Rm,Shine,Bombay Paperie and Smile.

Though literally translated as ‘women walking together’, Sahachari is much more than that: it stands for upliftment, altruism, societal responsibility, and, above all, for empowerment. This holistic vision brought together a group of ladies to set up Sahachari Foundation, a Trust dedicated to the betterment of the lesser privileged particularly in areas of education, socio-economic development of women, healthcare and promotion of art and culture

Every year, Sahachari Foundation lends a helping hand to the activities of deserving NGOs by funding specific requirements.

 Apne Aap Women’s Collective, an NGO engaged in grass-root level work which provides education and shelter for daughters of women in prostitution, in order to protect them from second generation sex work and give them a better life.

Victoria Memorial School for the Blind involved in the education of visually impaired students from primary to middle school levels, providing them with free education, boarding and lodging. Students are trained in various activities like craft, clay modeling, yoga, gymnastics, music, gardening, drama and giving foot massages, with the objective of making them well-rounded individuals.
