Daniel Yegon confident of defending title
Defending champion Daniel Yegon Cheruiyot of Kenya threw down the gauntlet to his fellow elite athletes, saying he was in great form and confident of defending his title in the Jamba Cloud Hyderabad 10K to be run on Sunday, November 25.
Daniel Yegon holds the unique advantage of being the only runner in the field of 14 elite men to have run on this course earlier and hopes to clock 28 minutes to claim the winner’s purse of Rs 1.5 lakh. He, however, conceded that it was a very tough field and expected a fast and aggressive race. Daniel Yegon was also pleasantly surprise with the cool weather prevalent in Hyderabad at this time of the year and felt it would help the athlete to push hard.
Yegon is among the second batch of elite athletes that arrived in Hyderabad, among them Ugandan Jackson Kiprop and fellow Kenyan David Kiptoo, winner of the Andaman Half Marathon on November 18.
“This is my first visit to Hyderabad and i am looking for a good race.
The competition is going to be fierce and I am hoping to finish the race in 28mins. A good timing here will also help me prepare for a full marathon,” said Kiptoo.
Kiprop, who recently finished 7th in the Half Marathon World Championships and has a personal best of 28.35 in the 10K will be looking to upset the applecart of the Kenyans. He said he was in strong shape currently and hoped for a good run on Sunday.
