4th session of India International Science festival (IISF) Curtain Raiser Programme  held at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR)

The 4th session of India international Science festival (IISF) will celebrate between 5th & 8th October 2018 at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Lucknow, by the Ministries of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences. The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) will be coordinate the event.

As prelude to the main event at Lucknow, Dept. of Biotechnology and VijnanaBharati (VIBHA) is organizing outreach programmes at eighty centres across the country.

Addressing to the curtain Raiser Programme held at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai Dr.RenuSwarup, Secretary, Dept. Of Biotechnology (DBT) informed to the gathering that, Hon’ble President Shri Ramnath Kovind will open the 4th session of India international Science festival (IISF). 10 thousand delegates including 5000 students, 550 teachers, 200 students from North –East Region 20 international delegates and approximately 200 start ups will be participating in the IISF 2018.

Dr.Swarup further stated that, ‘Science for Transformation’ is a theme of this edition. In last four years, science in India has made sea- changes from fundamental to application science, where science plays a leading role in social transformation. Another major change in the last few years is bringing a synergy among scientific institutions collaborative research to address myriads of problems being faced by the society, as science has solution for major societal problems, added Dr. Renu Swarup.

Emphasised the role of science & Technology in driving inclusive growth and urged the scientific organisation to work in close alignment and partnership with all stakeholders. Dr.Swarup further reiterated Government’s commitment to make S&T as enabler of social and economic progress for all sections of the population.

Elaborating the IIFS event, Secretary said, Global Indian Science & technology stakeholders Meet, Industry Academia meet and S&T for harnessing Innovations (SATHI)- A National start up entrepreneurship summit and student Science village are some of the important event being organised. The science village programme is linked with PradhanmantriSansadAadarsh Gram Yojana to reach out to the rural masses and propagate science.

Highlighting the need to empower Women Scientist & Entrepreneurs, she said, it’s a need of hour to shaping them for scientific growth trajectory, therefore; a programme will be casted. Approximately 800 women scientist/ entrepreneurs will attend the event. This year special efforts has been taken to engage stakeholders of North east and the aspirational district. All stakeholders of Science and technology field will assemble to collectively work towards “ Vigyan Se Vikas” – contributing to the Making of a New India. She Said.

On this occasion Dr.UllasKlthur, Associate Professor TIFR, Mumbai, Dr.Dhanjay Tiwari, Senior Scientist, DBT, Dr.Ravindra Kulkarni, Pro Vice Chancellor, Bombay University, many scientists and research scholars, students of star collages and representative from civil society of Bombay region in presence of senior faculties from TIFR along with representatives of the Vijnana Bharati were present.
