ALLAN VAZ: BRIEF BIOGRAPHY
Allan Vaz wears many hats. Besides being a singer and music composer, he’s also been a head honcho with several music/entertainment channels for almost two decades. Being closely associated with the growth of the independent music in the ’90s, he’s also been responsible for shaping several music success stories in the world of Indi-pop and Bollywood.
Music comes naturally to Allan. He is the son of late J.P. Vaz, who is considered a legend in Konkani theatre, having acted, directed, written, sung for and produced several notable Konkani plays back in the day .
Allan has also been part of many plays as a child artiste. That explains his love for the stage and the performing arts. Growing up in a creative environment, he learnt the violin and the guitar as a kid. As a young adult, he also went on to sing and play the bass with many Mumbai bands. With his latest release, he also wishes to highlight the unfortunate decline of independent music in India, especially regional folk music. His album is also available for digital downloads at independent music portal www.artistaloud.com.
“With this project, I’ve gone back to my roots. I feel there’s more to Goa than just the festive music it is associated with. In this album, I’ve been able to explore the musical diversity of my homeland. I hope more musicians would do that and thus, help the growth of regional music in India. Also, with digital platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and several music websites available, it is the best time to be an original artiste,” says Allan. ‘
Goenchim Festam’ is available on itunes and leading music stores in Mumbai and Goa.
