T-Series appoints SAM Events Management as exclusive licensor in GCC territory
India’s well-known music label T-Series has authorized SAM Events Management, a company based in Dubai for licensing of master sound recordings and audio visual songs of its entire music catalogue for territory of Gulf Council Cooperation (GCC). Sam Events Management will have the exclusive rights to collect royalties for usage of the master sound recordings and audio-visuals of each song of the music album/titles forming the part of T-Series music catalogue and shall have the exclusive right to license the master sound recordings of the albums in the music catalogue and to collect the royalties and fees that become payable from the licensing of such rights thereof for radio and television broadcast, cable networks, public performance etc originating in the territory of GCC specifically excluding all mobile and digital platforms which T-Series will continue to license directly.
The announcement by T-Series comes in the wake of increasing awareness about copyright issues. With this notification, Sam Event Management now stands as the exclusively singular and legitimate licensor for T-Series label in GCC territory. No organization or individual can now use audio/video content that belongs to T-Series without the written permission of Sam Event Management on platforms such as radio, TV, restaurants, clubs and ground events. In effect, this also means SAM Events Management shall also have right and authority to take civil and/or criminal action against any infringement of entire T-Series music and video catalogue in the territory of GCC.
The GCC is a political and economic alliance of seven Middle Eastern countries comprising of UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman. The GCC was established in Riyadh, Saudia Arabia, in May 1981.
T-Series chairman and managing director Bhushan Kumar points out, “With its all-pervading influence, Bollywood songs are played across events and platforms globally today. Our study revealed there are consumers of our content in GCC territory. In order to safeguard our interest and prevent further infringement, we felt it imperative to appoint a body that will protect our interest. We found that in SAM Events Management, which engages in multiple platforms, including licensing.”
