Amrita Thakur titled her collection “Salma Sitara” meaning touches of shimmer and shine for the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012 season.
There was a delicate beauty reflected in the collection as traditional and contemporary motifs danced all over the gorgeous outfits on a colourful background. The luxurious fabrics glittered under the ramp lights as the beautiful creations for the festive season made an impact.
Opening the show with a chiffon kurta and faresha pitta embroidered bodice, Amrita showed more creations in net, chiffon and organza in shades of green, rust, mustard, yellow, peach, red, orange, Sindoor and mehendi green. The delicate net saris had cut Dana and zari work, while the kalidar kurtas were worn over net slips. The final creation was a riot of colours as a mehendi organza jacket was teamed with a bright pink kurta and a striking dupatta.
The “Salma Sitara” collection with its delicate embellishments and beautiful fabrics from Amrita Thakur will definitely thrill buyers of festive wear.
Fashion with a Strong Boho Chic Statement was Presented by Nishka Lulla at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012
Nishka Lulla aimed her Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012 collection at the modern women who loves to opt for truly travel-Boho-chic garments. For the free spirited girl of the New Age, Nishka had silhouettes that spelt comfort all the way.
There was ease in the free flowing relaxed layered creations as tunics, dresses, flared trousers, maxis, midi skirts, some delightful oversized jackets and even two saris offered a stylish twist in fashion for the bohemian dresser. Using ikat and winter floral motifs, Nishka added myriad colours like grey, soft peach and pink, aqua, green, coral, lavender and topped them with black, white and some ikat prints.
The fabrics were totally travel friendly as knits and soft silks had leather as trims, which will stand the rigours of the lady’s jet-set lifestyle. The mix and match collection had several possibilities of creating more versions for the wearer who is imaginative. The interesting detailing was the elasticised hem for skirts, which created a bubble effect but provided an easy comfortable silhouette.
Ideal for the modern globe trotter, Nishka Lulla’s creations had a stylish international western look with touches of Indian sensibilities.
Prashant Chauhan Presented a Colourful Bouquet of Garments at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012
His inspiration was the fragrant Valley of Flowers in Uttarakhand where the beautiful flowers sway in the sunshine. Prashant Chauhan’s collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012 was a tribute to the beauty of the region as he used it for prints, colours and detailing on his garments.
Embroidery, prints and appliqués recreated the beauty of the flora in varying multicolours. Opening the show with an intricately embellished dress with 3D flowers and metal butterflies on a pale blue base; Prashant showed beautiful asymmetric hem tunics with garden print tights. The sheer beach cover, the printed jumpsuits and the saffron shaded drop waist dress with flashes of flowers were elegant.
The kimono style silk dress with floral work and the crochet gown depicting flowers on the skirt added to the glamour of the collection. Bringing a fun element on the ramp, Prashant had two models in one large Tee with flower print wearing two red skirts and another pair of models in similar sheer and opaque knit cardigans teamed with black long skirts. The final entry – a long black leather bustier which flared into a skirt worn with a sequined bikini bottom was quite unconventional.
The natural fabrics that brought the collection to life started with hemp, soya, ramie, and silk and then moved finally to flex. Paying homage to nature, Prashant Chauhan’s collection will appeal to not only lovers of Mother Earth but also to the fashion conscious dresser.
Surya Sarkar’s Daker Saaj Collection was an Unconventional Fashionable Offering at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012
Inspired by the beautiful jewellery on Ma Durga, Surya Sarkar’s “Daker Saaj” collection was a gorgeous study in white and gold at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012. With cotton, tussore, cotton silk, linen, Lycra and brocade, Surya worked his magic for a fusion line of women’s and men’s wear which was a great ode to Durga Pujo festivities.
A variety of jumpsuits, pants and classic structured gowns were the eye catchers on the ramp. Dresses were in assorted lengths while jackets made a welcome appearance on the catwalk. With only ivory as the colour Surya added appliqués in different shapes and sizes for the different western wear creations and placed them in strategic places. Origami folds were used lavishly for multi fold collars, or as side drapes.
Men’s wear followed the colour story for the shimmering brocade bomber jackets and the appliquéd long sleeved blouson, waistcoats and Tee.
For the finale it was a flame red and gold appliqué sari-drape gown that was the stunner in a collection, which had a definite theme and was high on embellished construction.
