her students were gearing up for the main Show going to held in Mumbai

on 4th August, 2012 at Bhabha Auditorium, Nariman Point and 5th August, 2012 at Bhaidas Hall, Vile Parle.

The beautiful girls were rehearsing to the instructions of their Guru i.e. Guru Rachna Sarang with all their respect and love for her.

Showcasing their talent throughout the world, Guru Rachna Sarang’s group will be performing for the first time in Mumbai and she is establishing a new dance academy in Mumbai known as “Rachna and Madhurita Sarang Academy of Performing Arts” in the memory of her beloved sister Late Guru Madhurita Sarang.

 The group have specially came from United States for the performance in Mumbai.

The Rachna Sarang Academy of Performing Arts, RSAPA Inc. teaches Kathak dance as an artistic heritage deeply rooted in its cultural context, yet evolving in a contemporary society. It seeks to organize performances, workshops and lectures by local and visiting artists at various art and educational organizations to increase an understanding of Indian art and culture in the United States.

 

Guru Rachna Sarang, the founder and artistic director of RSAPA, is a respected teacher and choreographer of Kathak. She has been trained in Kathak by great maestros such as Pandit Sundarprashad, Pandit Lachhu Maharaj and the renowned Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj. She has also been trained in Bharatnatyam by Guru Chandrashekar Pillai and Guru Kalyansundaram Pillai of Raja Rajeshwari in Bombay. Before settling in the United States, Rachna Sarang and her sister, a Kathak exponent, Late Guru Madhurita Sarang were very well-known as the “Sarang Sisters” and together established their own Kathak academy called “Nritya Darshan”.

 

Guru Rachna Sarang has been active in the dance field for the last 40 years and has trained over 200 students. She has made significant contributions in the field of traditional as well as contemporary Kathak dance choreography, and has presented at various prestigious venues in New York City such as Madison Square Garden, Lincoln Center, Town Hall and American Museum of Natural History. She performed for the World Music Institute at Symphony Space, NY along with her troupe and her sister, Late Guru Madhurita Sarang, accompanied by the renowned percussionist Ustad Zakir Hussain. Her students have also performed for the former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, on poetry he had written, for a show organized by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan of New York. She has also produced and choreographed dance dramas such as Kumarsambhavam, Ramayana, Chandanbala, and Dashavatar which were presented both in India and America.

She has produced a ballet called Kahn Kahani of which the composition was by Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasrajji and his wife Smt. Madhuraji and sung by Trupti Mukherjee for the Pandit Jasraj Institute for Music Research Artistry and Appreciation. Rachna Sarang has invited renowned artists such as Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj for workshops and Pandit Rajendra Gangani of Jaipur Gharana and world-renowned singer Padmashri Hariharan for shows organized by RSAPA.

Guru Rachna Sarang’s true legacy will be for her roles as a teacher, role model and mentor to countless students in India and abroad and now she is also establishing a new academy in Mumbai known as the “Rachna and Madhurita Sarang Academy of Performing Arts” in the memory of her beloved sister Late Guru Madhurita Sarang to pass on their knowledge of Dance to the students and teach them Beauty of Dance alongwith its importance.
