#INDIAvsTB cricket match between celebrities and MPs to #BowlOutTuberculosis
Parliamentarians, Ministers, Celebrities and TB survivors come together at the TB-Free India Summit at Dharamshala
Delhi, The TB-Free India Summit will bring together celebrities, international experts, members of parliament (MP) from across party lines, and the media, in the city, on April 8. The summit and the INDIAvsTB Cricket match are new initiatives to focus attention on ways to increase awareness about the disease, eliminate TB, increase multi-sectoral participation, and encourage greater participation from the private sector.
The event will be jointly hosted by International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)’s, Challenge TB project and Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) as part of the Call to Action for a TB-Free India campaign.
The summit closes with an exciting cricket match where the MPs’ XI team captained by MP Anurag Thakur will go head-to-head against the Mumbai Heroes celebrity team, captained by Bollywood superstar Bobby Deol. The playing team includes Mr. Manoj Tiwari, Mr. Deepinder Hooda, Mr. Shahnawaz Hussain, Mr. Mohammed Azharuddin, Mr. Gaurav Gogoi, Mr. Sunil Shetty, Bobby Deol, Jimmy Shergill, Sonu Sood, Aftab Shivdasani, Mahesh Manjrekar, amongst many others dignitaries.
At the summit, the delegates will discuss what makes TB a public health issue in India and share their perspectives on what India needs to do to end TB by 2025. The key speakers at the conference include Shri J P Nadda, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India; Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information and Broadcasting; Mr. PK Dhumal, Chief Minister, Himachal Pradesh; Mr. VP Singh Badnore, Governor, Punjab; Mark A White, Mission Director, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), India; Jose Luis Castro, Executive Director, The International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union); and Henk Bekedam, WHO.
Corporates will also share their commitments towards a TB-Free India and will discuss ways to accelerate public private partnerships to end TB in the country by 2025. TB survivors Deepti Chavan and Rhea Lobo will also speak at the summit and share their personal journeys after being diagnosed with the disease.

Call to Action for a TB-Free India
The Call to Action for a TB-Free India calls for increased efforts to control TB through innovative policies and new strategies to raise awareness and domestic resources to end TB in India. Shri J.P. Nadda, Hon’ble Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, launched the Call to Action for a TB-Free India on 23 April, 2015. The goal of the Call to Action is to increase the visibility of TB and mobilize domestic resources and commitment to end TB in India.
