IIFA toasts the best of Indian music, technical cinema and fashion at Grey Goose presents IIFA Rocks!
Day two continues to bring the Bollywood glitz and glam to Singapore!
After a successful show in Singapore in 2004, Wizcraft International Entertainment returned to the Lion City to host the much awaited 13th IIFA Celebrations. The second night of the Videocon DDB IIFA Weekend saw Grey Goose presents IIFA Rocks present the best of fashion and music at the beautiful Esplanade, Singapore. The evening witnessed leading avant garde Indian designers Varun Bahl, Suneet Varma and Masaba showcase their collections as some of Bollywood’s best beauties walked their ramp for them and a host of musicians came together to be part of the gala event. The Technical Award and Special Award winners of the Jaypee Group IIFA Award 2012 were also announced.
While Nargis Fakhri walked the ramp for Varun Bahl’s collection; Aditi Rao Hydari, Shazahn Padamsee, Dia Mirza and Zoa Morani set the stage on fire as they donned Masaba’s special IIFA Glitterati collection. The highlight of the evening was however, the gorgeous Bipasha Basu who took over the runway wearing a striking design for Gitanjali by Suneet Verma.
The ‘Green Carpet’ of Grey Goose IIFA Rocks! saw stunning beauties – Dia Mirza wore a short grey Rocky S number while Nargis Fakhri donned a peacock blue chiffon sari and an armoured style blouse, the daring Bipasha showed off her washboard abs in a Shivan and Narresh sari. Hosts for the night Chitrangada Singh wore Gucci while Ayushmann Khurana looked dapper in a suede blue blazer. The stars pulled out all the stops on the carpet, where frenzied fans were greeted by father-son duo, Rishi & Ranbir Kapoor who also graced the carpet along with other names including superstar-choreographer, Prabhu Deva, south phenomenon, Dr. Kamal Hassan, Sameera Reddy and Sonakshi Sinha, among many others.
On screen couple Shahid and Priyanka opened the gala night with the song ‘Uff’ from their upcoming movie ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’. Though fashion was the highlight of the evening, first time hosts Ayhushman Khurana and Chitrangada Singh brought the evening alive with their entertainment and humor quotient. Co-host Ayushman set the evening rolling as he interacted with some of the Bollywood’s biggest stars on stage. Both Chitrangada and Ayushman taught each other some serious moves as they exchanged lessons on cat walking. Actor Ranbir Kapoor was asked to show-off some of his Dad’s signature moves just as he made Sonakshi Sinha groove to a step to ‘Chinta ta Chinta ta’ from her latest blockbuster ‘Rowdy Rathore’.
Pan-Asian group ‘Blush’ enthralled the audience with their sizzling act as they performed on ‘Sweetly Leave me’ and ‘All Stars’ making all the fans want for more. The sizzling song and dance continued with performances from other acts by Neha Dhupia, Vishal-Shekhar, Hariharan, Lesle Lewis, Usha Uthup, Mika, Gauhar Khan, Sonu Sood and Hazel Keech and Shafqat Amanat Ali. The cast of the upcoming action-thriller ‘Maximum’ Neha Dhupia, Sonu Sood and Hazel Keech set fire to an already sizzling stage amidst all the glitz and glamour with the popular item sing ‘A Aante’ from down South.
Singer Mika stunned the audience when he stepped on stage – to everyone’s surprise – on a Bryan Adams track “Everything I do”. Before the audience could recollect their wits, the Punjabi singer entered his signature style singing one chartbuster after another and setting the entire auditorium ablaze with his electrifying performance! Starting off with the newest sensation “Chinta ta chita chita”, the pop sensation had the crowds in a frenzy as he belted out hit after hit like ‘Dhinka Chika’, ‘Jugni’, ‘Pyaar ki Pungi’ and ‘Subah Hone na De’.
Music Director Jodi Vishal & Shekhar who seemed to be in the best of moods, playing with the audience with crazy on-stage antics while performing on ‘Chhammak Chhalla’, ‘Ooh La La’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki’ from their recent project Shanghai, which was screened at the IIFA World Premiere on the 7th June 2012.
Other performances included a brilliant act by Gauhar Khan on ‘Jhalla Wallah’, ‘Chhokra Jawaan’ from Ishaqzaade. Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan wooed spectators with a beautiful act with his best tunes like ‘Mora Piya Mose Bolat Naahi’, ‘Bin Tere’, ‘Tum Mile’, ‘Mitwa’ and ‘Ankhon ke Sagar’. Bring the evening to a spectacular finish were the melodious Usha Uthup and the Colonial Cousins – Hariharan and Lesle Lewis. Delivering a medley of the most harmonious songs from their illustrious career; the trio set the tone of the evening performing on songs like ‘Hawa Mein udta Jaye’, ‘Madhuban mein Radhika’, ‘Eena Meena Deeka’, “Roop Tera Mastana”, “I am a Disco Dancer” and many many more foot-tapping songs!
Packed to capacity, the stunning Esplanade which is a traditional horseshoe form of European opera houses providing an intimate setting, Grey Goose IIFA Rocks was a sure-fire hit! The prestigious night of nights, the Jaypee IIFA Awards will be broadcast globally on Star Plus, for the 7th year running, while it will broadcast on Mediacorp’s Vasantham channel in Singapore. The 13th Videocon DDB IIFA Weekend and Jaypee IIFA Awards is supported by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). Panasonic with its Eco Ideas initiative will continue to partner the IIFAs for its greening initiatives.
