This year promises to be a great year for the institute National Institute of Fashion Technology Mumbai famed for bringing out fashion industry stars. Young graduates received standing ovations and whistles for their exciting, out of the box , edgy designs at a show spearheaded by Nisha JamVwal, show director. No one could be happier than NIFT Mumbai director Nilima Rani Singh who was seen giving her students words of guidance minutes before the final graduation extravaganza unfurled with plethora of former Miss India’s walking the ramp. Actor Zoya Afroz, ex Miss India’s Manasi Moghe, Shobhita Dhulipala, Srishti Rana walking with supermodels Deepti Gujral, Anchal Kumar, Sucheta James, Shruti Aggarwal, Shahwar Ali and Zulfi Syed showcased the edgy, extravagant collections on ramp.
These NIFT final year students had the auditorium electrified with palpable energy and excitement. As if that was not all, the grand finale received a standing applause and whistles when this show directed by columnist and designer Nisha JamVwal saw celebrities joining NIFT Mumbai students in the crusade to save traditional weaves & crafts from extinction with its ‘Make in India‘ theme. Receiving thundering applause, students took to the stage chanting slogan ‘save traditional crafts‘ along with celebrities and actors Kiran Joneja Sippy, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi,
Asha Sachdev, Tanaaz Bhaktiar Irani, Tanuja Padwal.
designer Nisha JamVwal who is also visiting faculty at NIFT, Singers Sharon Prabhakar, Geetu Hinduja,
designer Sangeeta Harindra Singh,
gallerist Tarana Khubchandani, artists Sunil Padwal, Arzan Khambatta, Krsna Mehta,
sculptor Kayur Patel, critic Bhawana Somaaya, Lawyer Mrunalini Deshmukh, theatre persona Dolly Thakore, Gynac Rishma Dhillon Pai, producer Naved and Sayeeda Jaffrey. Lubna Adam who choreographed the show took a bow shyly while faculty members chose to stay backstage just enjoying the fruits of their work of three years.

Students of Fashion Design & Knitwear Design have especially wowed the fashion industry with their intricately created collections inspired by literature and art, Oscar Wilde, Shakespeare, El Anatsui and the Mursi tribe if the reactions of chief guest actor Hema Malini and guests of honor Pradeep Hirani of Kimaya, Dilip Jiwrajka MD Alok Industries, Sangita Kathiwada of Melange, Satya Saran, Nari Ahmed , Bandana Tiwari and Roshini Chopra are anything to go by. They applauded the edgy and flamboyant outpourings by the students.
These luminaries, actors, celebrity designers and columnist stayed on chatting to the ingénue of #NIFT some of whom have already created labels- all ready and waiting to storm the design bastion of India. Students work for four years to see this day of their show and graduation ceremony fructify and their absolute delight and excitement was infectious.
On this same morning actor Hema Mailini along with Manda Vijay Mhatre, MLA, Belapur Assembly Constituency; Pradyumna Vyas, Director NID proffered Degrees to these young graduates cheered on by guests of honor Nari Ahmed, Satya Saran and Bandana Tiwari. The exhibit of couture by students displayed on Mannequins showcasing the outpourings of their creative journey through their four year programme was much appreciated and some celebrities even ordered ensembles from the excited students.
