Accessible Arctic is a world class exhibit curated by the Canadian Museum of Nature which has previously traveled to London, Belgium, Stockholm, Port of Spain, Riga (Latvia), Warsaw, Sydney, Berlin, Bucharest, Wellington, Santo Domingo, Washington, D.C, Seoul among others. On the occasion of Canada Day on 1st July and to mark India’s entry into the Arctic Council of countries, the Consulate General of Canada brings this internationally renowned exhibit to India. Accessible Arctic initiates High Street Phoenix’s latest property, World Wednesday which aims to showcase various cultures of the world to the average Mumbaikar.
Commenting on the association and rejoicing the launch of World Wednesday, Mr. Rajendra Kalkar, Senior Centre Director, High Street Phoenix opined, “We have been overwhelmed with our successful partnership with the British and Japanese consulates in the past and are quite optimistic about this new initiative. We have been appreciated for our infrastructure and positioning as a mall with world class services and events, and World Wednesday through Accessible Arctic shall take us a step further. We aim to create new experiences by showcasing rich culture of different nations of the world, brought together under our roof.”
On staging the exhibit to India, Richard Bale, Consul General of Canada in Mumbai¸ said “To many, the Arctic is a distant and mysterious place. We are excited to work with High Street Phoenix to bring the incredible people and landscapes of the North closer to Mumbaikars. The timing of this exhibit marks India’s newly granted observer status at the Arctic Council recognizing, among other things,
India’s demonstrated Arctic interests and expertise. Canada as Chair of the Arctic Council welcomes India to this important global body.”
The photo exhibits, part of the “Accessible Arctic”, are the property of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society. It is an exhibit featuring a cross-section of photographers who have contributed to Canadian Geographic, a magazine which showcases some of the most iconic photography of Canada’s Arctic.
This collection has been specifically chosen from images published in the past 80 years to bring the north closer to everyone. Photographs range from flowers to fields of grazing caribou to icebergs and polar bears that will provide an insight into the extreme and distant land which is the Arctic.
