The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne announces four not-to-be-missed masterclasses

A must for industry practitioners or anyone interested in developing a greater understanding of Indian films, The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will see 4 masterclasses addressed by filmmakers Kabir Khan and Onir, actor-turned-TV host Simi Garewal and documentary director Penny Voznaik.

Simi Garewal will speak on the subject of the “Evolution of Women in Indian Cinema” ,while director Kabir Khan speaks of his journey from Documentaries to Blockbusters.

Documentary director Penny Vozniak will conduct a masterclass on trails and tribulations of shooting in India and enterprising filmmaker Onir shares some of his secrets for maintaining creative freedom and financial independence.

Says IFFM festival director Mitu Bhowmick Lange, “The Indian film industry is of great interest to Australian audiences. There is a curiosity about its functioning and what better than to have masters from different fields in Indian filmmaking talk about their area of expertise. Each session will give an opportunity to interact with the masters and learn about their craft”

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) takes place from 3 – 22 May in this centenary year of Indian Film. IFFM was established in 2012 as an initiative of the Victorian Government and presents a broad, curated program of more than sixty films, ranging from Bollywood to art house and the sub continent as well as major retrospectives and masterclasses. Highlights include the Telstra Bollywood Dance Competition at Federation Square and the Western Union Short Film Competition.
