Talking about the initiative Dr Anjali Chhabria, Mindtemple says Music helps, Music heals. It takes one song, one rhythm to bring back a thousand memories. Lets come together to increase awareness on dementia as most of us will go through it someday”.

When asked about the initiative taken, Mrs. Bina Aziz says -” I lost my mother to Alzheimer’s, to see your own loved one losing her memory and being totally dependent was not easy. The best way we can take care of them is by keeping them in a positive healthy environment and doing our best for them physically. They go back into their past and that’s what they enjoy and the rest of their life they have and know nothing else to look forward to. When I read an article on Dementia and how music heals I immediately called Dr. Anjali Chhabria she had some wonderful stories to tell on how music had helped dementia patients, hence we decided to start music therapy on World Mental Health Day and will continue to do it on a regular basis”.

Mindtemple & Music Mania has come together for a special initiative which will help Alzheimer’s & Dementia patients heal through Music.

Mindtemple is a counseling center founded in 2004, which caters to psychiatric, emotional and behavioral concerns in individuals. It aims to help people from all walks of life and believes that emotional fitness is the first step to self-actualization.

Testing new waters, Mrs. Bina Aziz along with Dr. Anjali Chhabria (Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist) takes this initiative forward offering the masses all new Music Therapy in order to cure patients suffering from Dementia / Alzheimer’s.

‘Music Mania’, is a music organization initiated by Mrs. Bina Aziz. Music Mania has pooled the talents of maestros such as Talat Aziz, Anup Jalota, Leslie Lewis, and Runa Rizvi & Amika Shail to perform specially for the patient’s retro Bollywood music. This will give the patients a chance to enjoy, heal, feel, dance and just let go in an environment specially created for them.  Music Memory remains intact late into the disease as these activities do not require cognitive functioning for success.

In the last decade, the numbers of cases affected by dementia were 3.7 million in India. In 2030, it is expected to be double. The maximum life-span of these patients after diagnosis is 1 to 7 years approximately. Rehabilitation and recreation for such patients is minimal in Mumbai. As music does not require cognitive or mental processing, it helps dementia patients in managing stress induced agitation and stimulates positive interactions. Patients associate music with important events and emotions.

For this charitable cause where entrance is free is on the 10th October, 2014 from 4-6 pm. at Sheila Raheja Hall, Rotary Service Centre, Juhu Tara Road, and Santacruz (W) for the World Mental Health Day.  Mindtemple is reaching out to all hospitals, doctors and patients to come an experience this unique event.
